I’m currently a citizen of The United States of America.
What is the process and how do I go about obtaining and applying for citizenship in The United Kingdom?
Also, by obtaining United Kingdom/British citizenship will I be able to keep my United States citizenship and have dual citizenship or will I have to renounce my United States citizenship (which is not a problem)?

Both the US and the UK accept and allow dual citizenship. You can be a citizen of both countries. Many, many people are (including my son)
Next, in order to get British citizenship (assuming you do not have a parent who was British not by decent) then you are going to need some sort of settlement visa. (I will leave which one up to you as there are different paths to take)
Under current UK immigration laws, you would need to be resident in the UK for 5 yrs,(3 if married to a British citizen) then you need to pass a Life in the UK test in order to get Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) Once you have this for one yr you can apply for citizenship.
However the rules are changing next July 2011. Then it is going to be harder, take longer and have more requirements to be met before you can apply. 8-10 yrs. Doing community service, working etc. Showing a positive contribution to the community. Starting this Fall you will also have to take an English exam and pass.
Your first hurdle is deciding how you are going to get into the UK, and on a visa that confers residency towards citizenship.
