Using a friend as a Co-Sponsor for a fiance visa?

I'm planning to petition my Fiance who is residing in the Philippines. I am currently enrolled full time in college here in Guam (U.S Territory) and I am a U.S citizen. I have no job but I do have money saved up when I was in the U.S Air Force 2 years ago. The only money that's going in my bank account is the money I'm receiving from the G.I Bill ($1,471 a month as long as I'm enrolled full time). With this, I'm not sure if I still need a co-sponsorship to petition my fiance. Another question I have is, besides family members, can a friend qualify as a co-sponsor if they meet the guidelines?

well, if you're filing a K-1, you don't necessarily need to file an Affidavit of Support, as they aren't automatically required for fiances. However, if you do, you'll need to file an I-134, not the I-864. The interviewing officer can require the I-134 or not, it's really up to the officer, however, they frequently do. There is no joint sponsor on the I-134, however, you could get a friend or relative to file their own I-134 on your behalf. |
