When you entered you were most likely given a six month period to be in the country. You can extend that with USCIS for up to another six months. After that you have to leave the US. There is no exact period of how long you need to be gone. But if you try the "quicky" return you will appear to be using your visitor visa in such a way to live here. You may get away with it once (you may not) but we intercept these people all of the time and refuse them entry to the US. It's actually a pretty easy pick up. This is contrary to the law and the intent of the visa, so no you are not allowed to do it.

You aren't the first person who has thought of this, and you aren't going to be the last. But I'll just say we're not flying blind when you enter, and it really doesn't work. If you want to live here just get the right visa.

I do not know where the other person got their information from. Firstly there is no legal period of time that a person *must* leave the United States for upon completion of their stay, so periods of 48 hours and 12 months are completely bogus. Secondly the person is assuming that the officer at immigration will give the alien six months stay, the person may only give them 14 days, 30 days or they may not admit them into the country at all; that is at the discretion of the guard at the time of entry.

To actually answer your question: the only people who have a right to enter the U.S. "quickly" and "without problem" are U.S. citizens, which you are not and are therefore subject to the discretion of the guard at your port of entry.

Only if you have a multiple-enry visa. You need a really good reason for that, such as your business. Almost all multiple-entry visas are for business reasons, verified by your overseas employer.

If you try the in & out trick, you look very suspicious, for example, working illegally.

Dont circumvent immigration enforcement as you cant be deported. They know all tricks in the book and can see what you are trying to do.

I know of people who did it to spend the day in Canada or Mexico or they left for a cruise and came back 5 days later without any problems - as long as you have a multiple entry visa that is valid.

If you have B2 Visa and it is about to expire, you must leave the U.S. for 48 hours then re-enter for another six months. When this second entrance is about to expire you must leave for a year before coming to the U.S. again.
