Well, what sort of visa do you have? If it's an immigrant visa, then no, its expiration wouldn't affect your green card. however, if it's a tourist visa,then certainly it can affect your ability to apply for a green card, depending on how you intend to qualify for one. How do you intend to qualify for one? you can't simply apply for a green card anymore than you can apply directly for citizenship. so far, it doesn't seem like you've given this sufficient thought. take a look through www.uscis.gov and travel.state.gov before you run out of status and out of luck. |

You can't apply for US citizenship with a visa.
You need to hold a green card (permanent resident) for 5 years before you can apply. |

You need to apply for a residency before your become a citizen. And if you're visa is expired...yes, that will affect you. |
