im a mechanic from england and have no criminal record, im a qualified mechanic and specialise in bodywork on cars. I want to go live in canada, at least for a month or three and if everything goes well maybe even a year or the rest of my life. Ive been working as a mechanic for about 8years and i am 24 years old. I dont know if it makes any difference but i havent got my GCSE qualifications ( well there quite poor) could i still go abroad and get a visa or would i need to re sit them. Also any other information would be great cheers.
also i want to go near to the calgary vicinity as i have family there and would start off living with them

British citizens have an advantage over the rest (except Americans) when it comes to migrating to Canada. If you just want to come to Canada for a short period for a visit, there is no problem. I don't think British citizens even need a visa to come to Canada.
If you want to work, that could be a problem because you will have to show that you qualifications in England are equivalent to the qualifications in Canada. The GSCE is ok but they will want to see your qualifications as a mechanic. And then you or your employer will have to prove that they can't find a local to do the job you plan on doing. That's hard to do in your field.
The best way if you plan to live is you should ask your family to sponsor you. That process could take a year or more but it is the most sure way of getting to Canada for a long term. |

your family can only sponsor you if they are your parents, your siblings or your children (and you dont have any kids yet),
so if your family in Calgary is your aunt/uncle/cousins, they CANNOT sponsor you.
If you have NOT done any apprenticeship in mechanics, then you may find it very hard to immigrate. If you did complete an apprenticeship, then you should be ok.
However your leaving school early (age 16) may also be a problem. Because you have not done 12 years of education. |
