A "shitty" job in America is 1000 times better than a "shitty" job in another country. You have no real idea of what "shitty" is until you have traveled.

Do you know we have laws in place to prevent American companies from paying wages based on the economies of other countries? An American company in another country must provide employees with a decent standard of living. They may not follow the business procedures of the countries local businesses. American companies in other countries must also follow OSHA standards of safety. Local companies may do as they like. American companies in other countries are not allowed to work employees more than 10 hours a day, again, not true of the local companies. American companies on foreign soil may not hire children. Not true of the local companies.

Poor people in America have TVs and Cars. They have a place to lay their head at night and eat corn flakes with milk on them in the morning. Kids going to school in America are served a hot breakfast.

You my friend have no idea at all what it is to live in a terrible condition. I have a friend living in the Philippines who works selling rice. Her house has only two rooms with a roof, the kitchen and one bedroom. The bathroom is out in the open and ... well ... the other rooms don't really exist, just concrete slabs on the ground. These people are doing fine. They eat; sleep in a dry place, and have low paying jobs so that they can buy some clothes and other necessities.

You my friend have never seen TERRIBLE living conditions. If you are lucky, you will always believe that you have. you have no idea at all how lucky you are to live in America or how lucky these people would be to go there.

the way I see it is that they are fleeing economic difficulty or persecution and the 'shitty' jobs they hold would most likely get them more money than the equivalent in their home country.

they come to give their kids a better shot at life, America is the land of oppurtunity and these people just want to get in on the American Dream

P.S for those of you americans that hate immigrants remember this;

i would say the promise, i have worked with many and most send money back home, not a big deal cause the rich in america use other countries to avoid paying their dues.
living conditions can be better in the us, beyond living budget, a cheap car possibly insured, rent possibly many sharing the same location and food, and weekend enternaiment. the rest may go back to family just like so many do, or tax free zones fopr the rich.

Maybe some people have this strange idea of the American dream?

Everyone thinks that the grass is greener somewhere else and some return home after having a bad experience and some carry on without complaining.
I met a few people (I live in the EU) from Mexico and it sounds like a really nice country, so go figure;)

They come because of Cowardice. Some one can argue all day long that they come here to find a better life or to seek employment or what ever. We Americans have afforded the country we live in through the sacrifice of our own kind. Jobs have not always been plentiful in the United States of America. We've seen depression. We've seen gangsters like Al Capone.He didn't make the billionaires list in some magazine like the Mexican drug lord, but we stopped it before it got to that point. We the American People stopped it. Through putting the right people in the right place to do the right thing.
If the mexican people are trying to run from trouble they may as well run in place because they are their own worst enemy if they don't change the state of their own country. They have elections they have means of self defense. What they lack is American determination to change what they can't live with , by any means possible if your back's against the wall. I know it sounds like it can't be done but it can just look across the border and you see the proof !

8 Ball gave some good answer, and Playto totally nailed it. You really don't know what shitty living conditions mean. You really have no idea how shitty can it get in the savage eastern europe. I'm currently frying my brain trying to figure it out how to flee this misery and come to sunny Nevada when I can get a low-payed(by US standars, that is) job and try to ENJOY life for a change.

Immigrants come to US for a very simple reason - comparing conditions in the United States to some other country is not just pointless, it's like you wanna crack a joke, more like.

A lot flee religious and political persecution. These are the types that are likely to stay and contribute to the culture.

For many Mexicans making minimum wage and living together (sometimes up to 4 families in a house), they can buy BIG houses in Mexico for under 100,000 and start a business in the future. These, along with others from Central and South America are the types that will not contribute to the culture.

However, if there were a country whose currency was valued at 15x the dollar, wouldn't you go there, work, and then come back and buy your dream home? You wouldn't even need to take out a mortgage. The house would be yours.

I'm not making excuses for anybody, but it's just pure economics.

They come here to live a better life and provide a better future for their children. Just like any other group in the world, illegal immigrants have their bad seeds to. There's some that commit crime, but that number is way low compared to the numbers of Americans that commit the same crime. Yes! they do the crappy jobs Americans don't want to do, but any crappy job in America is better then any job in say 'Mexico', and any crappy pay is better pay then what they would get in Mexico. Illegal immigrants continue to come here because they know there will always be jobs Americans don't want, even in this recession.

Maybe if you lived off of $80 dollars a week after working 12hrs a day you would understand how bad the living conditions are in other countries. Its a struggle everyday for them, here you have had everything handed to you. You have never had to worry about anything close to the things they worry about daily. There's no time for school over there, you either work or don't eat. Its not like our country where if you don't feel like working you can just get on unemployment and receive food stamps, because if it was like that nobody would leave their country. And if our living conditions were the same and Mexico offered all of the things America offers people, we would be over there too. Just appreciate what you have and consider yourself lucky. Help a person out instead of wondering why they are here. A shitty job to us is a great job to them, its a lot more than what they make in their countries. And their kids grow up to have a better life and they are able to go to school.That's why they come here, its not that hard to understand just really put yourself in their shoes.

Because Mexico, Haiti & the entire continents South American and Africa are basically third world shitholes that any rational person would trade their left nut to get out of.

Unfortunately the reasons these places stink so bad is because of the culture of corruption and apathy that exists there. Factor in catholicism (which encourages them to breed like roaches and have more kids than they could ever afford to feed) and the future of these toilets isn't looking too bright.

So thats why they come - because their home countries are so crappy and worthless that pretty much any place on earth would be better.

You are not talking about immigrants you are talking about illegal aliens.

They come for government benefits. Every child they birth brings them more money & more food.
They leave jobs where they earn enough to support their families,
They leave their children without parental guidance
All to come here to make more, to get more, because they envy americans' lifestyle.

It's a lot easier to run over here than it is to stay and demand their rights from their own government.

Regardless of why they came in the past, the present reality is that they are now a big pucking problem. It must be handled. What they did way back when doesn't mean jack sheet now. It must be shut down. We have a big problem - right now.

I have never seen so many ungrateful people than right here in my own country. Sh888y jobs are OK for teens to start. immigrants of today have brought a tremendous amount of crime and disease. yes disease. the immigrants of yesterday (such as my own father) were grateful, and frequently toasted America whenever something good happened. immigrants now have a sense of entitlement. go home if you can't make it here. Money won't be handed to you wherever you go in the world. Why oh why did you leave your own country???
