I'm 22 now, been in the USA since I was 11 (in 1997) and been a permanent resident since january 2004.
Problem is, around when I was 13 or 14, I got in with a bad group of friends, so I ended up shoplifting from a BestBuy store and got caught. They detained me, called the police, so I guess I was arrested. The officer took me to the station for about an hour or two, then called my parents and drove me home, so I wasn't put in jail and I wasn't convicted. Sure enough, that was the one and only time I was ever in trouble with the law.
My question is, when I'm applying for my citizenship with the USCIS, how is that going to affect my approval for citizenship? Are they going to deny me based on that?

You you were a juvenile and you were not convicted so it would not affect you naturalizing. But you have to be honest at the time of the interview and admit to being arrested. Do not lie. One thing you should do is make sure you are registered for Selective Service. If you are not register now.. |
