well i came to know about yahoo answer forum from one of my freind i m from a muslim family n from south asia as u all know how women is treated there, i was married to a guy in canada by my parents it happens there normally i didnt like him at all but no one listens to me right now i m in canada on Permanent Resident Visa sponser by him, i m completing my education i took admission from my parents money now plzzzz help me out i cant live with that guy for a moment i thought it would b different there in canada can i get justice from a western world i m studying here dun wana go back as i know what will b the behaviour of all society there back in country and i cant live with this guy as well he also knows it but doesnt want to divorce me at any cost why is this soo???
why i m bound to b with him ?? i want to study here make my career den i want to marry some one of my choice i told him everything he says no u have to only love me coz i m ur husband plz if u could give me any advise???
what can i do to get justice i m in a very bad condition

if you are already a PR in Canada, then you can leave him now with no penalty.

If you go on welfare, and it is still less than 3 years since you got PR status, then he will be required to eventually repay to the govt whatever amounts you received on welfare.

I don't know the names of the departments.. but i'm certain there must be someone at some government agency that can help you. Open the phone book (the government section) and start phoning government agencies, and asking for advice.

Canada is a very bureaucratic place, the key to getting service out of them is for them to care personally - some will, some won't, but don't take any one person's answer as final - people here will tell you any kind of crap just to get rid of you (straight up lies even) just to avoid doing any work, apparently 'doing their job' not enough of a reason for the unionized bureaucrats here to lift a finger.

But I bet you could get asylum status if you told them you feared for your life if you went back home (i hope you don't, but it's believable). Also if you divorce him you might get a divorce settlement.

Anyone who says religious people are mentally ill is only showing their own ignorance. I am saying this and I'm not even religious myself. If this man himself is Muslim than you are going to have to decide just how far your willing to go to free yourself from him (assuming you are as well). I personally believe no one should live in an environment where they are constantly feeling uncomfortable.

I am unaware of how Canadian customs work, but you may be stuck with him until you have been naturalized. Your best option is to do your research and find out what your options are. It's important that you stay in classes. You are going to have to start planning ahead and while I know you may be terrified of the idea. You are going to have to assume some independence and move forward on your own. Having good friends willing to lend a hand will make things much much easier. However I know not everyone has that luxury. Look into how much it would cost to support just yourself. How much will you need? Can you take on a job and still go to class? Also look into the immigration laws. Talk to someone with knowledge in that area (sorry I have no idea where you'd go in Canada for that info). Find out how you can branch out on your own without your sponsor and move toward that. YOU are going to be the one that files for divorce if he won't. You are in a free country now and you have that right. You are going to have to stand up with confidence and move forward to the best of your ability. I hope things get better for you I sincerely do.

You have to live in Canada for three years before you can apply for citizenship. Make your plans to go to school. Hopefully you're husband will support you. Go on birth control pills. Stay with your husband until your schooling is completed. Then apply for citizenship. If by then you have not grown to love your husband then find a divorce lawyer.

You can leave him now. However, you will get deported back to your country.

iam a muslim girl who lives in an arabic country, but my family is very nice, they don't force to marry anyone or to do something that I hate.

in Islam women are treated with respect so plz dont generalize what ur family is doing by saying: (that u know how women are treated there)

complete ur study, find a job, pray to God.
if ur husband treats u in a good way then try to like him.

You need to get ahold of your country's consulate thee in Canada and you need to look into the immigration and marriage laws there too.
Maybe you can live separated form him....plead that you fear for your life because of religious reasons and wanting to get away from him......Plead for asylum....Be honest and truthful about everything.
