Nothing. It has nothing to do with it except something to complain about. Over 40 million legal citizens speak Spanish in the US.. most of them are bilingual. I think it makes them mad they never bothered to learn a second language. |

It has nothing to do with it. SOME people's behavior toward immigrants will be the same. |

To the antis it has everything to do with speaking Spanish.
I answered a question a few days back to relate how/ what Hispanics do not assimilate to?
There were a few comments, but not one could address how we do not assimilate. The only answer was speaking Spanish or having Spanish spoken around them.
Having Spanish spoken around them, simple do not go to those places anymore.
Spanish was spoken in this land before English was, Get use to it.
I am United States born and raised , I am bilingual ,but my primary language is Spanish ! |

No.. Im totally tolerant of Spanish speaking illegal immigrants, it wouldnt matter what language they spoke. I really dont understand, the whole deal its getting to be ******* ridiculous. Just let them do what they can, after all they just want a piece of the American pie. Totally understandable. |

I think it has more to do with the relatively HUGE amount of Spanish-speaking illegals and Mandarin-speaking illegals vs. English-speaking illegals, and people start to assume that all illegals speak another language. |

I think people would be more tolerant if they were native english speakers. Narrow-minded people view them as inferior because they do not speak English. But, hopefully this forces us Americans to learn a second language. |

The biggest reason Spanish is looked at with such disdain and mistrust relates back to when some of the books captured by England during the Colonial times of Mexico and Latin America. A certain father wrote a complaint letter to the King of Spain relating to how poorly the Indians were treated after the conquest in the Americas. The Spanish Galleon was intercepted by Pirates and its cargo of gold was stolen to England. At this time, the book written by the preacher was taken to the English court and the "Black Legend" was born.
As a consequence, most English speaking people in the United States of America that do not understand global relations feel that Spanish is a lesser language, something akin to what the Egyptians felt during the time of Moses relating to Hebrew. These Egyptians felt that Hebrew was the language of slaves.
Well lo and behold we have many Spanish speaking people in this country engaged in menial labor and my observation would be that these English speaking Americans must feel the same way the Egyptians were recorded as feeling toward the tribes of Israel during their bondage as described in the Old Testament.
I get this feeling history is repeating itself and some folks may find out that they are truly Egyptian of the Old Testament. |

It is called assimilation as you are a guest in someone elses country. If you happen to be Illegal that would be a big problem. The fact that you speak spanish is fine just speak English too. |

MORE?
Well, Most of the people who come here ILLEGALLY DO NOT speak English. A few of them try their best to learn how to speak the English language and succeed. I encourage people to do so.
Legal Immigrants on the other hand are FORCED to learn ENGLISH before entering the U.S. It is a requirement. If you Cannot speak or do not Understand the English Language then you don't get approved to enter the U.S. |

Running a stop sign is illegal; many innocent people have died as a result. Call me paranoid but I think there is a force out there that wants no less then the complete eradication of people who are of Hispanic descent. |

No, I would not be more tolerant if they spoke English. Illegal is illegal. If they are illegal, they don't belong here. But if they are here legally, they need to learn how to speak English. |

At least there could be communication. But, illegal is illegal. |

Nothing! I don't have a problem with them, but I think for the ones who do then yes they would be more tolerant towards English speaking illegals! |

no, i like spanish as a language. its easy to learn, and i am so happy to know some of it.
Americans have no ill will toward Spanish as a language or spanish speaking peoples.
They want the invasion to stop, secure the borders, and then people will be able to come more easily to America, and legally.
Right now it may be hard to do so if you are from Central or South America because many have come and overstayed. But again, who is to blame?
Is it the fault of the invaded? If the invasion stopped, then people seeking work here would be able to come and get it. |

It's not that we are more tolerant to English speaking immigrants...rofl yeah we are. That fact that the U.S. should have English as the official language. Once upon a lost time, all immigrants were required to speak English. Those who didn't were shunned and lo and behold the standard still exist. The main thing, most Americans don't like seeing Spanish in places it should not be. Also, 90% of illegal immigrants are from spanish speaking countries...primarily Mexico, which we are not on such good terms with. I think the tendency is that spanish and other languages become an annoyance as most illegal immigrant refuse to assimilate.
Back to your question...i don't like any illegal immigrants because they're all a drain on society. The government pays trillions of dollars a year to support these primarily non-tax paying people. If Americans wanted to hear foreign languages, i wouldn't have had to take English for 16 years. |

It adds to the disrespect we Americans feel. While I would not be tolerant of them being here, I would certainly feel a bit more understanding towards them if they at least tried to assimilate and show respect. |

America speak English, whether official by Congress or not, it is what we speak.
I would not be tolerant of them no matter what language they speak, because they are committing a crime by immigrating illegally. |

Why do so many people jump on the band wagon about the Spanish language? We have in the United States more people that are working that can't speak or want to speak the English language because no one in Washington DC or the states make it mandatory that they learn to communicate. When you look at the total picture, special means are made to accommodate non-speaking people, not just the Spanish language. My thought has been when it comes to the language problem anywhere put up international signs and stop spending money printing and making signs so these people understand. I'm sure it has happen and hasn't been reported where an emergency has taken place and no one could be understood as to what the emergency was, lifes have been lost.
An illegal immigrant is just that, illegal, doesn't matter if they can speak English or not. |

It cost us billions of dollars in translators from courts,jails,hospitals,schools,documents... this stuff is not free it cost's us a lot of money just in supply and demand |

The language is not the problem.
ILLEGAL is just that, ILLEGAL
illegal alien
1. a foreigner who has entered or resides in a country unlawfully or without the country's authorization.
2. a foreigner who enters the U.S. without an entry or immigrant visa, esp. a person who crosses the border by avoiding inspection or who overstays the period of time allowed as a visitor, tourist, or businessperson. Compare |

It has nothing to do with spanish language..it has to do with conversing..if we understand spanish then its good..its more the case of law dear than language but people should be able to converse and educated enough to communicate with the country that is their destination |

Illegal aliens speaking Mexican Spanish is only another irritant. The main problem is illegal aliens are Illegally in the USA.
The language an illegal alien speaks is not the problem, and irrelevant to the question of legality. |
