What's wrong with paying for the education of an illegal immigrant?

The most important thing for our nation is protect our Constitution, protect our borders, enforce our immigration laws, defeat our enemies and keep the nation safe & free for all current Americans and future generations.

The federal government is responsible for those things listed above with help from the states.

The federal government is not responsible for education, healthcare or any other social program. These are issues for the individual states to address should they so choose to.

Our country simply can not grant everything to everyone and it is not the responsibility of one American to pay for another American. The great thing about this nation is that we are free to make our lives as great as we want them without interference from government and without worry that the government will take our property or wealth through force.

Compassion can not and should not be left to the government. This is an issue for individuals. Government should be neutral on most issues, especially the federal government.

There is no right to education or healthcare. If someone wants an education beyond what is mandated by individual state law then they should pay for it. People who are here illegally by definition should not be participating in any programs and should be subject to deportation or legal assimilation before accruing any benefits.

As you grow older you and educate yourself on our history, our Constitution and the importance of how our country was founded and why it was founded then you will better understand. You will also get a new appreciation for taxation and intrusive government as you get older, start making money, buy a home, start a family, etc. There is no better "wake up" call to the reality of life then these things. School can not come close to teaching you what life experience will.

If you want to be compassionate that is great but you should not try to be compassionate with someone else's money, someone else's dreams, someone else's future.

The U.S. is a compassionate country because individuals are compassionate and not because government forces anyone to be. But, compassion only goes so far and there are limits to it. Most people that preach compassion are those wanting something or those promising something by taking it from one person and giving it to another. True compassion is opening up your own heart, your own arms, and your own pocket book. Sometimes compassion is giving someone good advice or making them face their issues without bailing them out.

Remember that the thing that makes this nation so great is individual freedom and we can not allow our government to make decisions that only individuals should be making.

Government only has the power that we the people grant to it and we need to keep that limited.

I hope this helps and I hope you come to understand, appreciate and respect the great aspects of this country and what makes this country so unique and special in the world.

It's all too easy for some people to forget how lucky they are.

And if everyone who broke a law (even those not caught) were refused education, we'd be living in a pretty crappy society.

And yes, illegal immigrants work a hell of a lot harder than us lazy Americans.

For those who say there isn't enough money, that's a problem we have with the Federal Reserve (which is about as Federal as the Federal Express).

If everyone who wanted an education who is a legal citizen had their education paid for and there is extra money then go for it, but it will never happen. Our whole country is kinda strapped for cash right now, gvt. and individuals alike. we can't afford ourselves, let alone noncitizens. It's kinda like adopting when you can't feed the kids you already have.

Well if they are hard working kids sure why not, but then again if they are criminals or gang bangers or if they just won't go to school and skip classes no they don't deserve it, just like any child who is going to skip classes and waste tax payers money doesn't deserve it. And if you are referring to college I think that if they are deserving maybe they should get a scholarship but they shouldn't get a free ride if they are going to waste it. But then again same goes to citizens because I am working my *** of just to get a four year state scholarship when I plan on going to college for 15 years. But then again I am not paying taxes yet so until I do I can not make an educated decision.

It is a Matter of Economics. Have you ever been to a Third World Country? And I am NOT talking about Mexico! I have been all over the World and I have seen People Thrown in Chinese Prison for Eternity for Not being there Legally!!! I have seen people Literally Starving in the Streets of Manila!! AND I have seen People thrown in Jail IMMEDIATELY for being there illegally. WAKE UP!!!! If you feel that Strongly about it, then do what I did and Put your Money where your Mouth is!!! Why should American citizens pay out of pocket for illegals? If adults want the benefits of being in America, then they need to register into this country and pay their taxes like the rest of us. Middle class in this country struggle to make ends meet and it is not fair that they have to pay taxes to support people who don't want to pay taxes or follow the rules here.

It is a slap in the face of the people who are going through the immigration procedures and lining up to become legal citizens.

I agree that universal education is a good thing, but the sheer numbers of illegals and the cost of educating them, providing them health care, or feeding them and policing them, is prohibitive. (Unfortunately not all undocumented aliens are the hard workers you know.)

It's a difficult question. The answer lies in making coming to America less attractive and/or going to other countries more attractive. The debate is on how to make that happen.

It's encouraging to me that you are at least thinking about it. Perhaps some day you'll come up with the right answer.

While I completely agree that everyone should be entitled to health care and an education, why is it that we should be responsible for it? Who exactly is going to pay for their education? The government (taxpayers)? We can't cover the costs of our own citizens.

If our education system were free to the world, we would have a flood of people coming here to get a free education and returning to their own countries to work. What then happens to the people who live in this country and cannot get into school (college/university) because there is no room for them? We can't just magically make room for everyone...you need facilities, teachers, resources, etc. When all the doctors get their free education and return to their homelands, then who is going to provide all of our free health care? When our citizens can't get into teacher's college, who is going to teach all these free courses? This is why we have limits as to how many foreign students can be accepted, and why they must pay their own way.

I don't think it's as simple as "breaking the law" that prevents us from educating and curing the world for free.

Since there are over 2 BILLION kids in the world who would love a free education who should we give it to first.

Remember that it costs OVER $10,000 per student per year. And that cost is far more based on some students special needs. Things like free breakfast, free lunch, ESL instruction, etc add up.

Just educating legal citizens children is bankrupting many school districts.

Where would you propose we come up with the additional money to educate kids from parents who pay little to no taxes, should not be here in the first place and have no right to an education at the expense of our own citizens.

There is the feeling that we (citizens and documented imigrants) are overtaxed, and that encouraging immigrants to come into this country illegally by offering public services (tax free to illegals) is not only unfair, but poses an even larger burden. Not only in taxes, but in jobs lost.

There is also the feeling of jealousy, that my grandparents immigrated, legally to this country. They had to file paperwork, even had to wait before entering the country, and once they got here, they had to take a citizenship test. Once they were given the right to work, they had to pay taxes.

Also the presence of illegal immigrants in schools, slows down the progress of the education system. Resources have to be shifted to accomodate the influx of students, time has to be taken to teach them fundamental english (before any important learning can be done), and focus taken away from "special needs" children who then become lumped in with the rest of the student body and either the teachers have to "dumb down" the content (because of course, this will be reflected in standardized test scores, the basis for no child left behind) and they become a distraction, because the priority "special need" is ESOL.

Lets just say that the US opens its doors to everybody on the planet. Just walk right in. We will pay for your dental, medical bills, dr. visits, set you up with a comprehensive retirement plan and all social service you require. Next lets just add on your entire family. In just 5 years, the United States population would grow from 300 million to 1 Billion, or close to it. We will have to drastically expand our infrastructure (fire, police, sanitation, public works, parks, roads, on and on and on).

Now, who is going to pay for this!

Just to let you know. My son is being called up for a border patrol mission. You don't want to screw with these guys.

Here's the scoop...it costs about $100,000 to get a 4 year degree these days.

Who's going to pay for that? For me, it came out of my mother and father's bank account. Should they also pay for the illegal alien? Is there anything else my parents can pay for so they'll have all the things you think they should have?

Shouldn't their home country actually provide enough schools and hospitals for them? Why not push back on them?

There's only so much money - and only so many American tax payers. American tax payer money should go to the sons and daughters of the American tax payers...no?
