First, of all studies have shown it fails miserably.
Most illegals will not get insured even if required by law. If they do get insured they buy the policy get a license and then immediately cancel.
Florida requires insurance and 25 to 30 percent of the cars on the road have no insurance period.
Second, North Carolina tried to give illegals licenses and the flood gates opened. Welfare rolls went through the roof and the state nearly bankrupted due to the influx of non-tax paying individuals drawing benefits. Within three years North Carolina ended the program.
In New York, polled citizens voted 70 percent or higher against illegals receiving licenses after seeing what happened in North Carolina.
Licenses are a privilege not a right. Take a cab, bus, train, etc and pay for it if you want to commute.
This is an issue of the people and the citizens of America do not want illegals to have licenses.
As an example I now live in Indiana. In Indiana my car insurance is 45 dollars per month in Florida same car same driving record, same car insurance company it was 202 per month . The difference the number of uninsured drivers on the road. Florida allows illegals to drive Indiana does not. Why should I pay an extra 150 dollars per month or more so someone not allowed legally in this country and does not speak English and follow the law to have the right to be on the road? Florida gives illegal immigrants a slap on the wrist. Indiana will deport you if you are caught. |

I-l-l-e-g-a-l...The word speaks for itself! How can anyone in the right state of mind agree with that? what they should have done to avoid what's happening now was enforce the law a long time ago. Now they want to cover the sun with a colander....impossible!
How about all other people who came to this country legally and did everything by the book and some of them with a pending status, still! To me is like a slap on their faces, don't you agree? |

In the USA a driver license is an ID and with this ID we get a lot of benefits, like voting, bank accounts, travel by air, visit other countries, like Canada and Mexico, buy houses, etc. In other words you are validating their stay here in the USA and that is not a good idea, specially with the criminals. It is not just driver license, that is not the whole truth but the pro illegals used it to confuse the rest of Americans, other words fool us. |

This makes NO sense whatsoever. Why should they get a drivers license when they are not supposed to be here? It makes as much sense as allowing them Welfare and health care.
Oh! Never mind they already get that. Not much makes sense these days. Does it? It seems to me that common sense is no longer common. Maybe we should start calling it uncommon sense. LOL |

Driving is NOT a right of an American born LEGAL citizen, it is a privilege you have to PROVE yourself worthy of by testing and showing prove of insurance. Because I feel that a solitary language government is essential for it's unity and existence, IF they can PROVE their worthiness by testing EN LA IDIOMA de INGLES y podas hablar en ingles,
and can prove insurance, AND their legal immigration status, YES. But otherwise, they should carry ID with photo and fingerprinted as proof of identity. If they are ILLEGAL they have broken the LAW and should be deported AFTER jail-time is served. If we ALL were to obey ONLY the laws that we thought we wanted to, this place would be even MORE chaotic than it already is. OBEY the laws and come . . . . WELCOME!! BRAKE the laws and SNEAK in like the THIEF you are. . . get OUT or GO TO JAIL. |

A drivers’ license is a PRIVILEGE, and even Americans have to work hard to get it why should they just “get” one?

As of May 2008 the real ID act comes into play and this means illegals should find it nearly impossible to get a DL in the States.
However like everything, I am sure there will be a way around the system. And, I am sure the major of New Haven, CT will help them find it as well, as he has pilot programs already in place to help illegals in the city
Just becuase someone has a valid and current DL does not mean they will get car insurance. |

The decision they made to circumvent our immagration laws (yes we have them, but they are rarely inforced) excludes them from the priveledge of obtaining a drivers liscence in my opinion... |

It would be a very, very bad idea. Obama says the illegal aliens don't take jobs the poor of this country want. He is very limited, bonkers, or lying through his teeth.
Give them a drivers license and they will take those jobs away from Americans. Further, even after they do have the drivers license, they don't earn enough money to pay for insurance.
It is... incredibly... stupid to give them drivers licenses. |

I don't want them to get their dl's. They came into this country illegally and want to be rewarded for it. THEY BROKE THE LAW. Any crime that legal residents make they are punished. Why shouldn't the illegals. If we keep giving them what they want and the bill is sent to us then they are gonna keep coming. I have heard both Hillary and Obama on debates that there are 12 million illegals in this country, why don't they do something about it. They probably know who they are, if they didn't how would they come up with this number. I'm sick and tired of people who cry over illegals being treated badly, what about people who are obeying the law, people who are born here. It makes me want to puke. |

I don't think it's my place to express my opinion on this as I was an illegal once. Part of me wants to say yes and part of me no ...
You can get insurance even though you don't have a proper DL. I only had international drivers license when I first got here and I was able to purchase a car and get insurance. But that's Chicago, half the people living here are illegals and half of that half is polish and polish people usually find way around the law.
I think that as long as immigrants could get a job here they'll keep coming ... |

It is a public safety issue. Anyone living in a border state knows what I am talking about.
I've seen several car accidents over the years where the driver and passengers of the car at fault, jumped out and ran away from the scene of the accident.
The major cause of these 'at fault' accidents? They can't read the traffic signs which are in english. If they had to take a drivers test, they would be able to and they would be required to have auto insurance. |

I think it will help police identify and track them. If we cannot deport them, the next best thing is to keep track of who/where they are.
And they have nothing to lose by driving illegally. If we don't give them licenses, they drive illegally and cause accidents, meaning higher insurance premiums for us. |
