What are some of the pros/cons of militarizing the mexican border?

Pro:
-It is a strong, clear message
-seemingly effficient
-would placate a large number of citizens
Cons:
-not the purpose of a military. Could be considered an abuse of military might, troop deployment. Illegal aliens are as obnoxious as hell, I'll give them that. But they are not an armed invasion.
-military should be reserved for more urgent purposes
-military pressence on the border threatening to Americnan citizens.
-expensive. not like amnesty, wall, or O.W. II would be expensive, but it wouldn't be cheap.
-better solution:
auction out the border. The lowest bidder (ie, the coorperation who would cost the government the least) would be responsibile for maintaining border security. If there is reason to believe that their efforts are negligible in their impact on the overall situation, then they can be 'fired' and replaced by another with ease. Just put that in the contract. |

Diplomacy & Tact Matters
|
Pro:
- It would certainly prevent the number of people crossing the border illegally.
- We will be protected from any foreign terrorist entrances. Right today, if they wanted to, they could get through the border and carry out their missions.
Cons:
- That would be a huge increase of national guardsmen stretching across thousands of miles of border just to ensure Mexicans don't cross the border. ((This is very costly))
- Too may troops in one area can be dangerous. You need a spread of troops across the country and not just in one area. |

Pro:
We would remain a free country instead of being transformed into a 3rd-world cesspool.
The crimmigrants that are here would probably start to self-deport once it became clear that we mean business.
Our health care costs would go down dramatically as we would no longer have millions of foreign free-loaders weighing down our system.
Our schools would improve because we would no longer need bilingual teachers to teach the invaders in their own language.
Crime rates would plummet. When the city of Irving started holding illegals for ICE to pick up, their crime rates went down dramatically. This should come as no surprise, because people who are willing to break immigration laws are willing to break the rest of them too!
Auto insurance rates would go down as we would have much fewer drivers with no licences and insurance.
Poverty and unemployment would go down as more Americans would be able to get jobs at a living wage.
There would be much less noise pollution in areas that had formerly been dominated by the invaders.
We would no longer have the added cost of having everything printed in two languages.
There would be much less identity theft.
There would be much less stolen social security numbers.
More of the money made by workers would stay in our economy, rather than be sent to Mexico.
The drug traffic would decrease.
Potential terrorists would have a much more difficult time entering our country.
We would no longer have millions of people in this country whose loyalty is to a foreign nation.
Cons: None. |

Well we had the 7th calvary on the border for about a hundred years and it kept the illegals out for the most part, a pro would be that it gave us control of the border, a con is that without the military there, we don't have control, and that could be dangerous, seeing that 18 thousand possible islamic terrorist were caught crossing in the last year, how many got thru? |

Unless the military is just suppose to be a visual presence (cardboard cutouts are cheaper) and not an armed threat to anyone crossing the border then why would we have them there?
The military is a fighting force used as a visual deterrent would be an embarrassment to them and ourselves once illegals know our military are limited and walk past the eyes only weapons checked uniformed soldiers.
Cons
confusion, sound, sight and smells
hearing screams of the dying through the dark
hunkering down in the cold rains
fighting another life for your life
ransacking abandoned homes for simple wants
not sleeping for nights on end
missing family
searching for those MIA - KIA
not know who is friend or foe
having to trust someone you don't know
people dying violently
cost, hunger and the aftermath
once started an end is unknown in time
Pros
We stop people from crossing a border
And some might feel these are pro reasons:
money saved can be used to pay down national debts
jobs in today's unstable job market will suddenly open
unchecked illnesses will not reach our soil
unchecked citizens returning from vacations chance bringing illnesses
crime will stabilize - more room for humane treatment of citizens already incarcerated
illegal drugs will disappear - addicts will find a new high spray paints, gasoline, lying to obtain legal prescriptions, experimenting with new and deadly ways of obtaining a high
I think anyone wanting the military at the border needs to given a spot on the border and told to protect it until relived. Yet I also think many of these same people could not survive the first night alone under fire.
The 7th Cavalry was also at the Wounded Knee Massacre and what good came from that action? |
