First, there is no such thing as "illegal immigration" or an "illegal immigrant." All "immigrants" are legal. "Immigration" by it's definition is legally controlled. All illegals are illegal aliens by legal definition.

Second, there are no positives to illegal alien border criminals. PERIOD.

If illegals are allowed to come here and are eventually granted amnesty, then all law breakers will be encouraged to petition and hold rallies for amnesty and we will save millions on prison costs because there will be no laws enforceable and everyone can do whatever they want.

Oops, guess that is not a pro. Guess there is no good reason for illegals.

If I see this BS statistic repeated one more time as fact, I'm going to scream. This comes from a statement by Republican Representative Steven King of Iowa, who claimed that each day there are 12 murders by illegal immigrants and 13 negligent homicide deaths caused by the driving of illegal immigrants. That's 25 deaths a day, times 365, equals 9,125.

Only it doesn't. When King was asked to support his contention, he offered zero proof. King basically pulled it out of his pooper. He said the numbers came from a "GAO (Government Accountability Office) study that I had done". Only the study said no such thing.

King requested some information on prison numbers from the GAO. One of the ones he cherry-picked was how many immigrants are in US jails. King claimed that the GAO report said that 27% of all US prisoners are illegal immigrants and given the proportion of murders committed in the US each year, he simply took 27% of them to be by illegals. In Rep. King's own words, he 'extrapolated'. But when extrapolating, it helps to be extrapolating the right numbers for the right groups. He made so many basic statistical screw ups, it's hard to know where to begin.

First off, the figure he was quoting was for all immigrants, legal and illegal. Secondly the number he was quoting was for immigrants (illegal PLUS legal remember) in federal prisons only. Federal prisons account for only 13% of the total US prison population.

The real number for ALL non-citizens in ALL (federal + state) US jails is 6% not 27%. And since all immigrants, legal and illegal combined, account for about 8% of the total US population, that means they're going to prison at a lower rate than native-born US citizens.

There are NO studies or statistics to back up the 25 a day/9,000 a year deaths claim. The GAO themselves stated this when asked about it in response to Rep King's 'extrapolation'.

It's a BS figure, invented by a BS politician and BS-ed on boards, forums and blogs from here to infinity. It's the Goebbels approach. Repeat a lie often enough and people will believe it.

If people want to make an argument, they should at least have verifiable fact on their side.

5) They pay BILLIONS in taxes every year, and those taxes not collected help many things like Social Security, Medicare and even our road maintenance. Taxes they pay in rent even help local schools.
