Did he propose to you shortly after you met or have you known each other for years? Have you spent time together in each other's countries, met each other's families, etc? Are you from similar educational, socio-economic and religious backgrounds? Before you accept any sort of proposal, go to his country and see how he lives, meet his family, meet his friends, etc.
Also suggest that you would like to live in his country for a few years after you get married and see how he reacts. If he is 100% against the idea, you can pretty much bet he loves the green card more than you. |

If you are from two totally different cultures, and have not known each other for a lengthy period of time. really spending time together, it's a good bet he's just after a Green Card.
As an example, you are Roman Catholic, he's Muslim, you met on the Internet 6 months ago and he's visiting you in the USA on a tourist visa. This is the first time you've met him in person. You've never been to his country and you've never met his family. |

With the new immigration laws in place by Home Land Security you really would be better off asking them this.For example 27 workers were arrested using fake or stolen documents and Home Land Security set them free and offered them green cards and work permits .Indicating the employer would be checked out at some point but DHS is in no hurry |

He's illegal. I mean, come on. If he is a great person he can apply without using you or marriage. It is the ones with shady pasts that won't qualify so keep that in mind. Plus if you already "love" him, nothing anybody says will matter and you know it. |
