First, you must legally obtain Permanent Resident status (green card).

Second, you maintain PR status for 5 years physically living at least 6 months of each year in US.
Third, you apply N-400 Naturalization and at the interview, you show the proficiency in English, knowledge of US Government and Civics, Good moral character.
Once naturalization is approved, you go to Oath ceremony.

If you obtain a green card via marriage, you are eligible to become US citizen after 3 yrs.
If obtained in any other fashion, it is 5 yrs.
A piece of advice, do NOT renounce you original citizenship if you can help it. American DOES allow dual citizenship. |
