Sadly it is not Britain, as we could do with a way of deterring many of the waifs and strays who end up here. |

Mexico hands down!
The Mexican constitution provides for stiff penalties for illegal aliens caught entering or living in Mexico. But beyond that, CBN News shows how the Red Cross is trying to expose “unofficial” abuses committed by Mexican police and immigration officials against aliens. Such abuses include bribery, robbery, assault, kidnapping, rape, and murder. |

D'know, but The Sunday Times travel section, this week, suggested that the best thing to do, for a relaxed holiday, was to avoid the USA. |

Please hurry up and find them and then install them at all levels in the UK Home Office. Also place them in our legal system. |

The U.S.
Most of the U.S. are hell bent against people immigrating into the country (not all ..... but definitely most and there is really no argument otherwise).
I live in the U.S., born & raised, and I don't understand it.
I thinks it's sad really. |

The US used to be pretty bad, I remember the first time I came in they were extremely surly and to the point, even leaving the country they had guys in plain clothes scrutinising people as they entered the aircraft.
But more recently its seems to have really toned down, last time we came in the guy was even having a joke with us, and asked us if we had done any cow tipping while in the UK.
This might mean they have a better more sophisticated electronic systems in place, but in any case the US and UK are bound to be tougher than most for obvious reasons. |

Sorry to say but the immigration officials I like dealing with the least are the ones in my own country, the US. |

The US.
I've been twice. First time I was a civilian working as a barman and I was going there on holiday. I got looked at like something immigration at JFK would put in the bin and waved through after the closet examination my passport has ever had.
The second time I was serving in the Navy and joining my ship in New York. Initially it's the same surly 'what the hell do you want?' attitude from the immigration officer... right up until they asked why I was entering the US. I said I was joining my ship in New York and got out my Navy ID card.
Well, right at that point I went from scum to hero. For all their flaws, Americans sure as hell know how to take care of their troops; and if you fight on their side they love you too.
Nothing more than a cursory glance at my passport because my military ID told them I could be trusted (apparently) and I was whisked through immigration with a smile and friendly advice on where to get transport into the city, and if I was going anywhere in the city before I left, go to this bar, go to that club... and don't pay for train travel... just show your id at the train station and you'll travel free....
Sadly I'm out of the Navy now... next time it'll be surly arrogance again. |

I am Canadian and I have only been to the US, England and Pakistan so I can only evaluate customs from those countries.
Pakistan...well its been a while but I remember them being all right...there was a bit of language barrier but they were okay; better than I expected actually.
England. Well Ive been there twice and they are nice...courteous and all that. Last time I went to take a course at Oxford University and the woman was very nice and told me to get a good grade.
Canada. Well Im guessing since I am a citizen I get treated more nicely? Coming back in Ive never had an issue; the ones at the border are extremely nice. They have gigantic smiles lol.
And the US...well lets say...they have a bit of catching up to do in terms of courtesy and not barking at every chance they've gotten. My sister and her husband are deaf and mute and they have plenty of stories to tell about how they have been treated. And needless to say being from Pakistan though I am atheist, my family is muslim...so of course after 9/11 we've been treated differently, including a two hour hold to ask the stupidest questions ever. I swear their aim is not to gather information but to humiliate you and threaten you.
My family consists of 6 members, one of whom is severely autistic and the other is deaf and mute and they have never shown respect in terms of them. One of them asked why our trunk was so full; we told them that my brother (24) has to wear diapers and that he needs a lot of extra clothes...he had the audacity to laugh and snort.
Just last week my sister and her husband were questioned and I was their interpreter. The officer to my brother-in-law who is American: You speak english? Me: No but...Her: You're American and you dont speak english??? Me: That would be because he is dead AND mute...he understands it perfectly fine though.
All they wanna do is bark and humiliate. |

The good ol' U S of A. They're even nasty to American citizens. It's so nice getting off a long, transatlantic flight, hauling your carry-on down an escalator, and having a drug dog jam his snout in your crotch while you're being wanded by some fat, surly, redneck, minimum wage rent-a-cop. |

How come I get a load of thumbs down for giving a factually correct answer? Do I need to write an essay on geopolitics?
Or are the thumbs down from the typical American who has never been abroad. Have a nice day. |
