Probably the UK but nowhere is ever that good to be poor in. I've just been listening on the BBC to the latest survey of pensioners done by the charity group "Help the Aged". Some of their findings are quite startling in that a great many pensioners fail to claim benefits to which they are entitled.

The UK benefits system works quite well once a person knows how to claim and what to claim. The most important benefit available to the poor is one called "income support" and "housing benefit". What these benefits do is to pay rents or part thereof and add money to an already existing income, either wages, salary or pension.

Everyone in UK can claim heating allowance from age 60 - this is about Â£200 per year per person. Here in London, us pensioners get free travel anywhere in London on any public transport. That alone is worth something like Â£4,000 a year if used extensively.

The UK benefits system does very little for the work-shy, in fact it does nothing. If a young worker is unemployed, the best they can expect is something called Job Seekers Allowance of about Â£50 a week. This money is really to help the worker find a new job of which there are plenty in London.

A great many people, with little or no knowledge or experience of the benefits system, are of the belief that the system is corrupt and abused a lot. This simply is not so.

A large section of the population are under the misaprehension that immigrants are in receipt of huge payments. Well, they just ain't. Many are simply left to fend for themselves. The system takes care of children but once a person reaches 18 they're on their own.

Enough said.

The united states. We give out WIC and other social services to illegal immigrants who aren't even poor. They just don't report their under-the-table earnings and therefore aren't legally rich. You don't even have to pay taxes to get free food and to get free education. You don't even have to be poor.

Not only that, but then some racist organizations want to give scholarships to people just because of their race. Is that racism or what?

Come to the United Kingdom. There's all sorts of money for different things, Income support, child benefit, disability living allowance to name three of them. You won't live like a king but they certainly won't see you starve, you may also get housing benefit (they pay the rent for a home for you).

I am recently divorced, lost my own home, car etc. I work whatever hours i can manage with a child on my own. I might not have nice clothes and holidays but i have a roof and a bed, food, luxury's like a PC, my wages dont quite cover my out goings so i get a little financial help. I cant possibly earn what a married couple would. I am very grateful for the help i get from our government, people in other countries are not quite so fortunate. x

In the USA poor people are about equivalent to the middle class in Russia.

.In Holland you get 75% of the wages you earnt while you were working, so if you earnt 100 000 euros you would get 75 000 euros unemployment benifit.
I do not know if this is the best country though

the united states. there are churches that help pay bills and give food, clothing and furnishings. i see a long line everyday on my way to and from work. nothing but illegals in those lines. i have never seen so many people in those lines until now.

I believe the best place to be poor is the place where you have the least chances to not work, so here a small samples...

Sweden is the Best European country for unemployment (4.6%).Of course when your country is just few millions...

Japan also with 3.8%

But among all Singapore is on the top with 2.9% unemployment rate but are less socialist than Sweden.

denmark...there are no homeless. you get paid benefits from the government when you lose a job or have no job regardless...a normal 40 hour wage you receive eachmonth. this is forever. health care is also free.

and no these countries will not collapse. we have actually paid our national debt, have the highest standard of living and are the safest to live in....it's getting the pjeople to spend money that makes the economy work and succeed.
