What do people from other countries really think of America and Americans?

Why is it that people from other countries have so many opinions on the U.S.

I can't say too much because I'll probably get renditioned away to Guantanamo Bay lol. But 1/2 of my family are now Americans and contributing to your ailing economy, and btw, they took all their money with them from England too. I personally like Americans, they have been good to do business with and fight with, it's just that they are SO pigheaded about thinking that they're the best - when plainly they just are not. I prefer them to the EU who are just a bunch of arrogant tossers run by the Freemasons. But I prefer Canadians to Yanks personally.

Most people dislike the US government (even under Obama, although the dislike is much less than under Bush), especially its foreign policy, but don't have a problem with most Americans as individuals. When people get together they become incredibly stupid, just look at any research into crowd psychology. America has its faults, but it's much better than many of the alternatives - just look at Russia...

For those who say we're jealous, don't believe it for a second. I live in a country with the same freedoms as the US, which is rich and with a high quality of life. I don't have anything to be jealous about!

America is great but unfortunately it's full of Americans.

i don't think it's so much america but instead americans. Almost all the people from all over the world embrace different cultures and are able to respect them; however a lot of Americans tend to be more judgemental of others so you come off in a "i think i'm better than you type of attitude" which makes you look ignorant. ...just a thought

Has it's faults, but if the other options were China or Russia, then i would be with the yanks.
I'm from the mother country.

An excessive proud nation, love war, lots of movies, highly racist (not saying all, but a big part, apparently US doesn''t remember that it's a country of immigrants, America it's the whole continent, so therefore all of the people from the american continent should be consider americans), anyways, love the food tough.

The USA, should have removed fidel and its goons 50 years ago
Mexico, too much violence. They are accomplices of fidel
Nicaragua, ortega also accomplice of fidel
Guatemala, the same
Colombia, comunist guerrillas
Venezuela, a disciple of fidel
Brasil, same,
Chile, bachelet adores fidel
I am tired of so much comunism

A lot like the four blind men being asked to describe an elephant only by what they are able to touch.
America is an open society & is on display to the world , warts & all.
THe place is huge, with widely varied local flavors & lifestyles.
There is no one America that can be adequately described unless someone has lived & worked in the various regions that make up the whole.
It is not a homogenious society.
Much easier to get a grip on a country's flavor in a smaller European country where there is a national psyche & more homogenous ethnic population.
Considet that some states are larger than some european countries.
You will get different opinions from people who get their impressions from American movies & TV or meeting the occasional American rather than visiting & touring the entire country.
This is the place to ask.
You will get all sorts of answers in the international section.
Just ask them & ask why & where they get their impressions .
Have worked with people from all over Europe.
Their impressions are based on where they spent their time here.
The ones who spent time in Los Angeles or the southwest feel the culture shock as much as anyone else when they visited NYC or Atlanta for instance.
Have not seen as much of my own country as they have.
Do know that it gets real different from place to place .

Mostly jealousy. No one likes a country that has the ability to knock you off the map. They want their own country to be #1.
Whenever they get in trouble, guess who they turn to for help?

I'm From England, And I Don't Have A Bad Opinion on the USA. I Think It is Such a Great Country, It's Very Succesfull as Well, Sure The Sports arn't Great but You Have Great Actors, Writers, Singers. And One of the Biggest Country's in The World.

Everyone I Know Doesn't Have an Opinion of the USA in a Bad Way.
It's Just a Stereotype. Everyone You 'Think' That has So many Opinions are Probaly Just Jealous, I Know I Am. =)

America is not perfect nor it's diverse people, but what country can claim that they are perfect. People have the freedom to believe what they like in America without having to keep it to themselves, we have the opportunity to go as far as our desire will take us in reaching our goals. America is a melting pot of people from every nation and that is what has made America a special place for us. Not all Americans think they are the best people on Earth or that our nation or policies are the best. Our leaders lie to us and the media aids them in their deciet just like all governments around the world do. Contrary to popular belief we don't believe everything we are told. Many people are highly educated and world wise. There are people who are ignorant that much is true but look in your own backyard and you could say the same. We just want to live our lives to the fullest and we don't want to put anybody down. I respect other nations right to their soverignty and culture and I feel we could learn alot from each other if we give each other a chance without preconceived ideas. There is nothing wrong with nationalistic pride. England should be England and the same for every other nation on this planet. respect each other and maybe we could live in a world of peace.
