What do people have against immigration?

I have no probelm with Immigration. My grant parents immigrated here throught Ellis Island in New York. They learned ENGLISH, got JOBS, paid TAXES, VOTED and supported the United States of America.

This is how this country was built.

I ahve a problem with ILLEGAL INVADERS. These people sneak into this country, refuse to assimilate, refuses to speak ENGLISH and demane rights and beneifts form the government that they have no right to demand. They are criminals, they burn our flag, they hold rallies and demonstrations in the street demanding thisgs they have no right to. That is what I have a problem with.

I only have a problem w/ illegal immigrants who want to come over here and take advantage of this country. Yet they don't pay a dime into the system. Anyone who wants to come here. Get a job, pay taxes, learn the language and adapt to the culture is more than welcome. All others need to stay the h-ll out. Understand? GOOD!!

I am a native born American.....my family came here in the mid-1700's......The only place that I have immigrated from is my mothers womb.

Lord have mercy...I have no issue with immigration; however, illegal alien immigration is a huge burden on our nation at this time.

Legal immigrants do it the right way, I have no issue with them. But, if amnesty was given to all the illegal aliens now, who is to say that legal immigrants won't pay down the road when they are denied Visas to come on over..How fair is that.

Immigration, legally, is a virtue to this nation. I love legal immigrants... they have many things to add and contribute to our country.

People who feel that they are above the law, and come by illegal means, are a burden. They need to be deported and returned to their homeland until they file the correct way.

The vast majority of the world has an issue with illegal immigration. We here tend to reference the difference. That is unless you are a supporter of illegal aliens and then it is conveniently left out of the conversation.

I live in Los Angeles and right now it is not to big of a problem but it is almost a necessity to speak Spanish if I want to get around. Also, you are right most of "us" did immigrate here but they didn't necessarily sneak in they went to Ellis Island and went through the whole "Americanization" process.

And please, you pro-illegals, stop bringing up something that happened CENTURIES ago to excuse breaking the law. Almost every country started with people coming from somewhere and conquered the land. Ancient history is no excuse.

Whether the process for legal entry into U.S. is difficult or not is irrelevant. Entry to a country is a privilege, not a right.

I don't care if they TRIPLE the amount of immigrants entering here as long as these conditions are met:

1.They entered legally.
2.They pay taxes
3. And learn ENGLISH.

It's not immigration it's ILLEGAL immigration that people have a problem with. Now pay attention. ILLEGAL. That means against the law. Someone who comes into a country against the law is an ILLEGAL immigrant. They are criminals. They broke the law.

I did not immigrate here, I was BORN here. So were my parents. Most citizens of this country were. I have ancestors that came here but they did not break the law to do it. They even paid their taxes Believe it or not, now this is the real shocker, they took it upon themselves to learn to speak English.

It is obvious that you chose not to use the word "illegal." As my colleagues indicated and you should agree that when someone has broken the law, then you need to accept the consequences. I think all the illegals from Mexico should go back and make a difference. With the numbers you have and the American education under your belt, you could bring democracy to all people in Mexico. Start a protest in Mexico for civil rights, and down with government corruption, and clean up drug cartels. Mexico is your heritage and it belongs to you and generations to come. Think about it.

Illegal immigration by definition is above limits set by law. The limits were set for good reason. School costs $10,000 per child per year in LA for example, and more if you don't speak English or have parents with a low education level. Their parents can't pay that. We subsidize our poor but never said we would carry the cost of those who come illegally, taking education funds from our children and medical funds from our sick.

Nothing. Legal immigration is the way to go. Legal immigrants are welcome! Illegal immigration is against the law...hence the term "illegal".

Try reading the answers to the 8000 times this question is asked and then try being less ignorant.

And FWIW the rambling up there is 180 degrees off base. It's not difficult at all. Coming here legally is easier than most nations on this planet (that needs to change IMO). It's all about illegals and their cost to U.S. citizens.

if they doubled the amount of Legal immigrants it would be 1.2 million per year, probably about Right but these people would have tax I.D.s and they would not be competing against citizens for the construction jobs.(as cheap labor)

These days, the issue of LEGAL immigration makes people crazy due to what appears to be mass population explosion.

We are going to quadrulple our current population by 2020 if the same/current rate of legal immigration is followed.

Heard anyone in Wahsington talking about limiting legal immigration? I haven't. All I hear is that we need MORE people " to do the work Americans won't do".

Look around you and then multiply that by 4. That should give you your answer.

I don't know. I think its a very complicated issue from both standpoints. I've found that legal immigration is a complicated, daunting, and long process. My boyfriend is English and we've been in the process of figuring out how to legally be in the same country and its a ridiculous process with ridiculous guidelines and wording that confuses even me....and I'd like to think that 4 years of college would have made it easy to wade through. On top of the complications and all the nasty bureaucracy involved, there's other issues as well. It seems to me like there's a lot of myths surrounding immigrants that create a lot of animosity. Living in the state I do, we have a lot of immigrants in this area. So many times I've been told to "avoid Mexican men" because they're "out to get me" or assault me, or do awful things to me. This type of blatant racist comment makes me unnerved. I think there's a big combination of factors for both those trying to get in a country, and weird soceital things on the other side. I don't know....I'm really rambling. But it is a complicated issue. If a person who is completely, 100% hateful towards illegal immigrants sat back and looked at the problem unbiasedly and objectively, I think they would notice a lot of unresolved issues, problems, and U.S. soceital factors that cloud the situation.
