LAREDO, Texas — Border Patrol agents found 48 suspected illegal immigrants in the back of a closed truck trailer at a checkpoint in Laredo.
The Laredo Morning Times reported Wednesday that a federal complaint says the driver is facing federal charges.
The complaint says a secondary inspection Friday night, at the Interstate 35 checkpoint, led to the trailer's rear doors being opened and 48 people hiding inside. Their status was not immediately available Wednesday.
The Border Patrol did not immediately return a message Wednesday from The Associated Press.
The National Weather Service says nighttime temperatures in Laredo this week reached the upper 90s.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement spokeswoman Nina Pruneda says hotter temperatures could place lives in harm's way.

Of course a moronic criminal who gets into an enclosed truck at those temperatures gets what he gets! Nobody "forced" them into the truck! They did it in order to go on a crime spree in the US! |

It happens quite regularly actually,but I can't really gin up a lot of sympathy for criminals,so I don't really care one way or the other.I have no wish to see people die,but if it were to happen during the commission of a crime,I'm not going to get all worked up feeling sorry for them.They know the risks,luckily this time they were apparently okay,that is not always the case.

I think. Close the door, turn the truck around and send it back accross the border. If the driver is a citizen of the U.S. then strip him of his citizenship and let him stay in Mexico with his pals. |
