Yesterday on CBS news there was a Haitian Man Talking about the deportation of Haitians back to Haiti. He said, And I was Shocked Appalled And Pissed Off. "It's Our Turn To Get A Piece Of The PIE". I Just wondered if this bothered anyone else as much as it does Me.

Well, the Haitians have always felt like they're being treating differently from the other folks in the region, especially the Cubans. If you're Cuban, the moment you step foot on US soil, you're home free. If you're Haitian, forget about it, you're just another illegal. However you feel about the Cuban government, would anyone really want to argue that things are remarkably better in Haiti? For better or worse, it creates expectations that we've never met. Beyond that, during the wars in Central America, temporary protected status, tps, was offered to El Salvadoreans and others. Never happened for Haitians. The wars ended in the early 90's but TPS for El Salvador lives on and on. TPS was extended for these folks when Hurricane Mitch devastated the region. well, Haiti gets hit by hurricanes too, so what about them is their question? why should they be different? they're the poorest country in the hemisphere, so they feel like folks should think about them as well once in a while. While you may not be crazy about the idea, they do have some legitimate gripes. |
