he is right on that! That's what I did when I came here from Russia - I rarely spoke Russian and watch a lot of television in English as well as read a lot of books in English" |

Well, he's been in the position of having to learn English, so I'd say his opinion is very credible. |

Arnold is right! When my grand parents immigrated to the US they learned English! They did not speak Finlander to me and we watched English televising and listened to English radio. Of course then there were no Spanish stations. They however did hold many of their traditions, but firstly they were Americans! |

It is funny since it is true (he mangles the language still after all these years here) but my grandfather had to learn the language and that helped him start his own business and become part of America not just a European living here. I think immigrants need to learn English and make it their first language. It does not mean they give up their other language but they use the official language of this country. |

Arnold is right. When I wanted to learn conversational spanish I used 2 televisions,. One set to my normal english, and one with the SAP channel enabled so it was in spanish.
FASSSSSST way to learn. |

I agree with him. |

He's a good man. Heck, if he was a natural born citizen, I might even want to vote for him for president. Then NO country would ever screw with the US again, lest they get the wrath of the Terminator! |

I think it's great. Listen, when you are in a country that isn't your own, you just have to learn the language in order to progress. This is a fact of life - not an insult. Go Arnie! |

Good advice. He talks the talk and he walks the walk!
Immigrants do need to learn the language unless they choose to poor and limit their options for the rest of their life. |

I agree with him.....However, I am trying to learn Spanish and its very difficult....It takes time to learn a language and 1st time immigrants have the most difficult time, but their children learn it much easier, obviously.... |

i agree with him. hispanic people need to learn how to speak english if they want american people to respect them. and it pisses me of when they ask you a question and when you answer, the tell you " me no comprendo" |

I don't agree with Schwarzen-kennedy very often but he's right. English is still the predominant language and is the language of most modern business; to get ahead, its helpful to learn it.
My grandparents had no German speaking radio stations or friends when they came to this country nearly a hundred years ago. They were forced to learn English and became successful business owners because of it. |

I suppose he would know what he's talking about from first hand experience. |

He should know.. he came to this country and didn't speak of a word of English.. as he learned the language he became a huge movie star, and is now the Governor of California... he should know what he is talking about |

I disagree.I think they should speak spanish and watch spanish TV shows. That is of course when they get the hell out of my country and they finally return to their homeland(Mexico) |

Arnold is 100% correct in saying what he did.
Associate with English speaking people, listen to the English news on the radio and TV.
This way you will learn the language much faster. |

I think he is right. This is the first time that I have ever agreed with him, but he makes a good point. I only say so because if I moved to a foreign country, I would try to do the same thing. I wouldn't expect people to understand me if I went around and spoke English. I would want to try and respect and use their language and culture while in their country. It should be done the same way here.
I am not saying that people shouldn't abandon their primary language such as Spanish. In fact, they should be allowed to use it whenever they want in their homes, with friends, etc. However, I think that to become an efficient part of American society trying to use English is the most important thing to do.
He should not have to catch any grief over this. People just need to think, "What would I do if I was in another country?"
I still think that the people learning should be legal...not one's who have came here the wrong way...fixing one wrong with another does not make a right...and it didn't work last time in '86. |

"E pluribus unum" ("from many, one") is a motto of the U.S. government. Immigrants are welcome, but they are supposed to assimilate into the culture. This is an English-speaking country. He chose an ironic venue to deliver the remarks, but the governor was right on.
AD, look up the meaning of "hypocrite." He is an immigrant who learned English, and he was urging other immigrants to learn it as well. |

He is correct. That is how our children learn language,no matter which one it is. They hear it from other people speaking whether it is one on one or from the radio or TV. They then mimic what they hear. When you hear something unfamiliar over and over again,it should start to sink in. |

Did he speak Spanish?! Because I heard and understood him quite well. The point is regardless of his German background, and language... HE LEARNED ENGLISH. See even he knew how he needed to assimilate, and progress for success in America. |

I agree.
Some people are upset about the lack of bilingual signage/media coverage, but why should the US (where the primary language spoken for the last 300 + years has been English) have to...........nevermind.
Conservatives are too conservative and liberals are too liberal. |

I think that He should learn good English him self cause he doesn't speak very good English himself . Who is he to say TO TURN OF THE SPANISH TELEVISION SETS. He is NOBODY . TO SAY A REMAKES LIKE THAT . I UNDERSTAND THAT Mexicans should learn English .But people need to understand that their is alto of bilingual Hispanics that also see Spanish Television.!!!!! |

he;s right, they want to be here. then they need to learn the American way. I'm surprised he is so kind to anything darker then his race. he did say once he believed in what Hitler believed. ha, maybe he'll be Americas Hitler. |

People complain about immigrants not learning english,
but they're missing one thing.. think about it, if they do learn english they'd put people from the US at a disadvantage in laboral competence, for the fact that they're bilingual
Competence nowadays is fierce, make them bilingual and what you'll get will be more jobs lost to immigrants..
Now we'll have to see what angers you the most, people not talking english in the US or BILINGUAL immigrants taking over native people's jobs
I know they do already even though most of them don't speak english, so what if they do? See what you get |

You cannot force people to learn languages. They want to learn when a gun isn't put to their heads.
As for Arnold, I don't think about anything that freak says at all. I go out of my way to avoid thinking about him and his supporters.
