I think legal immigrants should stay, but I also think that politicians are making a bigger deal of this issue than it actually is. The US has always had immigration problems like the irish, the germans, chinese, etc. Bush and Bill Frist think they can fix this with a fence? Guess who's probably going to be building the fence? MEXICANS.

When someone comes in legally they should be required to become a citizen within a set time period or get sent back. Plus, I feel that immigrants should be required to pull their own weight. No public assistance such as food stamps, medical, or cash payments. And if they break the law, back they go, citizenship, visa or green card. I don't think we should have to support them. We already have too many people abusing the system.

Actually if they stayed past the expiration date of their visa there are here illegally and should go back home. From my experience with many in that situation I can say most do not pay taxes, they have forged or illegal documents so they can work and break many laws to stay here. they should be sent home and have to come back the correct way.

Ok.... what if you invited someone into your home and they decided to stay and stay and stay. They decide they like your house and they tell you that they're not leaving and they take over your bed and watch your TV and play on your computer and eat your food. Would you let them stay or would you call the cops to have them removed even though you invited them in the first place?

I'm not even gone to try to top the answers you have just give my opinion.They don't have a visa or green card then they are illegal and should go home,apply for citizenship if they get it I for 1 would welcome them.If not stay out of my country until you are legal

They knew the rules when they applied for the VISA so NO they need to either hire an attorney to work this out with INS or GO HOME.
They created this situation. Now they are breaking the law.

The only way they should legally stay is if they are willing to abide by our laws...become American citizens...pay taxes...and not collect welfare benefits.

I think if they are established in the timeframe they were given, the visa should be extended. I don't understand why it isn't always done though.

if the came LEGALLY, than why shouldn't they stay. as far as ILLEGAL immigrants they should be sent home, and made to follow the proper procedures.

if it's legally then why can't they stay? if they did it legally then they have just as much right to stay here as anyone else. I know some people who are legall immigrents, they arn't any difforent from you or me, so why should they be treated difforent? if they came ilegally then we should just have them go through the process to make it legal, if they wont do it, then we would have no choice but to send them home.

I happen to think that I'd rather spend money deporting the nasties and closing the border than deporting people who are part of our country one way or another.

However, one of the big reasons there is resistance to a guest worker plan is that given past experience with people like your friend, people doubt the guest workers will go home. The impact on economics and school crowding is the same however they GOT here. At some point in time they were no longer supposed to be here.

I don't really care because there is really NOTHING we can do about it....BUT, I really , really wish they would LEARN TO SPEAK ENGLISH!!!! They shouln't be able to live here unless they have enough respect for our counrty to learn OUR language!!!!! (and pay some damn taxes!!!)
