What do you think about those who speak spanish to each other in the work place?

I prefer it to those who speak about last night's American Idol in the workplace. At least with Spanish I feel like I might gradually learn something useful.

I don't think it's a bad reason to speak spanish in front of american colleagues. They might just want a little privacy with what they're talking about.

Whatever: It is "no hables de cosas que no entiendes" are you sure you understand what you are telling me? I can speak English and Spanish perfectly and personally think that both languages are beautiful. I am just sick and tired of all of you who try to put our roots down. FYI, I live around the border with Mexico and can switch from English to Spanish and vice-versa any time I want. Bootlickers embarrass Latinos even more, and not only Latinos speak Spanish.

Although it may be their mother tongue, it makes you wonder that they're talking about you or really secretive. And that goes for any language, not just Spanish. =(

For immigrants, it is sometimes easier to converse in Spanish (or some other language).

Sometimes, they converse in a foriegn language, then they speak English at me. But I have tuned them out. When I finally responded, I say "Are you talking to me?" in the same manner as Robert De Niro in Taxi Driver.

Personally, it annoys me. Where I work, there is a lot of croynism on racial lines.

i think if it is about work to explain things, OK. but if it is just to shoot the breeze or gossip its wrong and inclusive, it does not show team work or a friend environment

Just as any people who speak a foreign language in this country, you can bet your bottom dollar they are not saying anything they want the bosses or other workers to hear. If you are in this country, speak English!! You don't go to France and expect everyone else to learn and speak your language do you?

I think it's rude to speak any language in front of others who don't know it. If you know English, you should speak it. It seems sneaky and deceptive when you hold an entire conversation in another language. I am around it all the time, and I hate it.

I speak both English and Spanish, and I think that they're just talking about daily life. Just like you do. They are real people who are just trying to feed their families. This is America, where freedom of speech is protected, whether it be in English, Spanish, or whatever language. If you think differently, maybe you're the one who's not really an American.
