Drugs. Illegal immigration is not a big issue but still an issue.
Drugs affects all people legal or not, affect families, brings crimes, also affect health.

I think our biggest problem right now is the person who is in charge of the problems and not fixing any of them.

Interesting....I would say illegal immigration. The war on drugs costs the American tax payers money. The lack of a war on illegal immigration causes the American tax payers money....

DRUGS!! Illegl Imigration is not the problem. They just wanna come and live a better life! Can u blame them?? Drugs is killing people, and people get killed because of drugs!

Neither, the war in Iraq is a much bigger issue.

They are related... many of the illegal drugs that come into this country come by the same routes and methods as the illegal immigrants... find a way to stop the one and you can stop the other...

The drug war is a horrific policy. The laws that are supposed to protect us from drugs actually do more damage to society than the drugs do. The laws are also costing us a fortune and filling our prisons with crimes that would otherwise be victimless. They drain our law enforcement assets away from problems that would better protect us. The laws support criminals and their enterprises. The laws destroy familys. The laws force cops to be intrusive and invasive in peoples lives.. if you have a drug deal.. neither the buyer or seller feels like a victim.. no one is going to report this to the cops.. so they have to actively look for these "crimes". in contrast a robbery victim will notify the cops.. and the cops are actually out to redress a wrong against one of the parties.. there is an actual victim. and a real threat to other people. IF your still not convinced about the drug war.. look to prohibition of alchohol.. how did THAT benefit society? It didnt.. it only created massive revenue for criminals and corruption in politics. The drug war is a war on our own people. Its cost to society is staggering. Lets empty the prisons of victimless crimes.. and focus on the true threats to society.

Illegal immigration is costing us too. Its costing us our national identity, it's costing us in jobs and services. Its making the rule of law a joke. It could be argued that if 12 million illegal immigrants can flood across our borders.. one or two terrorists could probably just "walk in" too.

Overall i think the drug war costs society more. If for example you legalize pot. the money to the criminals is gone almost over night. The govt could then tax grower permits and actually get a sizeable revenue that could be used towards education of kids on the dangers of drugs.. and treatment for the addicts.. it would pay for itself.. with a few dollers left over for alternate activitys for kids. Pot is one of our largest cash crops.. and it's not even taxed.

illegal immigrants shoudl have their assets in the us seized. they should be arrested and deported. There are laws on immigration.. and there should be zero tolerance for breaking the law. The solution here is to change the law not break it.

drug laws effect me in my pocket book.. it costs us all in taxes.. and they also cost us because a significant portion of law enforcement is chasing drug users instead of chasing corporate fraud.. or child molesters.. or other crimes that cost us our safety. I think the direct cost is 85 billion a year. but then when you add in the loss in taxes.. you can probagbly quadruple that. and the cost in lives.. a person in prison is 35k a year. as apposed tosending them to harvard for the same price and end up with a taxpayer.. u end up with a felon that cant get a job.. and years in prison probably just makes a trained criminal.

immigration costs me cus it steals our jobs. companys can hire slave labor (work at the companys terms or else.. you cant really complain about rights when you have none and face deportation) So illegals drive down the value of the american worker. They also use services the govt provides.. we have to pay for their kids schooling, health care for all of them etc.. i'd rather see this money spent on legal citizens or legal aliens.

I would have to say illegal immigrants. They are typically brought in by coyotes, which work for drug lords, which use people as mules to bring in drugs. Stop the influx of illegals and a lot of drugs would be stopped at the border. Secondly, the war on drugs costs us taxpayers billions every year. Don't you think we could find something better to fight, like socialism?

It depends. I think drugs are worse, because they harm other people, I guess the people who choose to buy and use it. But money wise I'd say illegal immigration. More money is sent out of the country, more money is spent for bilingual teachers, etc. but i guess I'm a little biased because I'm from Peru.

Both issues can be described as "flavor of the week".
I was in high school in the 80's , so I remember when the "war on drugs" and all it's propaganda was pounded into our skulls.Drugs are indeed a problem in our country , but the establishment made a mountain out of a mole-hill.
Many casual drug users (who would otherwise not be a "threat" to society) were sent to jail , or even prison.Lots of these same folks now have a hard time getting jobs , drivers licenses , business licenses , etc. because of a criminal record.
Illegal immigration , on the other hand , is a REAL problem.
But our elected officials are doing SQUAT about it!
Millions of taxpayer's dollars are being spent on health care , education , food stamps , rent assistance , etc. for people who haven't gained legal entry into our society.
Most illegal immigrants are good law abiding , hard working people , but that doesn't change the fact that they're here ILLEGALLY!

It's a toss-up.Which problem is worse?
Drugs or illegal immigration?
Both are costing taxpayers countless dollars.
I personally think that the government should quit wasting it's time (and our money) enforcing a losing war on drugs , and implement a program that ensures that immigrants are here legally.

Whyruafraid?
I think our two biggest problems right now is our lethargy to change & our apathy to the rest of the world.

Out of those 2 I would say drugs... and not necessarily illegal drugs either.

My brother-in-law is a great man, but he is addicted to alcohol. He can't get a job, isn't reliable, and stinks horribly. He had such a good future until he fell into a bottle. Now he feels that he can't get out. Is afraid to try because he might fail.

Illegal immigration, eh, it helps keep this country running. Don't kid yourself - there are many jobs that us Americans won't do.... either because, even working a zillion hours a day, it's still not enough to feed our family OR we are too soft to handle the conditions.

nursekasey
Drugs, or at least here in rural Virginia, i work in a medical clinic and 75-80% of our pts are addicted to narcotics, in other places it may be immigration but here definately drugs

Drug issue affects me alot more than immigration, but i really don't care much about either. I'm happy w/ the current immigration policy we have now. I think they could put less pot smokers and dealers in jail. This would save us money on taxes.

The current Drug Laws are the Problem
and the Lack of effort by our Government to enforce the current Immagration law.

Immigration Law would work if enforced.

Current Drug Laws have never nor will they ever work.
They only make the issue worse.
who wants Drugs illegal: Your dope dealer does cuz He does not want to lose your bussiness to 7-11 or stop and go. He does not want to have to pay Tax on his income.
its impossible to ingest an lethal amount of Marijuana, but you can get things that will kill you at the local store. Asprin, potatoes, alcohol just to name a few. Your government let you get drink and knows you will drive.... THEY KNOW YOU WILL DRIVE. and they let you have it anyway. Marijuana Should be Legal by 10 am . We should just wake up stop being stupid, and reap the Tax benifit. the boost in jobs to farmers, fuels can be made from Marijuana Plants also. You would see a Benifit from fixing this Law. The Government knows this they keep it illegal so that they only benifit from it, while they know if Drugs were the problem they would not sell you alcohol.

Hmm...drugs are a big issue...illegal immigration is an issue, but I look at that with some pity, because the people are escaping places where they are living in horrible conditions...so I don't blame them for trying to escape in any way possible...I'm not sure what I would say is the bigger issue...

Look at the drug problem in areas of high illegal alien population and tell me that the drug problem doesnt go hand in hand with the illegal immigrants. Curb the illegal immigration problem first, and the drug problem takes a big hit also.

Illegal immigrants are a larger problem than drugs.

By entering the US, immigrants are taking on quite a few rights that only citizens should have. For example, they are getting drivers' licenses in CA. Also, they have a high incidence of Social Security theft, so that my taxes are paying for their medical care and welfare. I find that incredibly unfair. The money they earn here also is going to mexico generally, outside of the normal allowances and is therefore a contributor to the decreasing value of the american dollar.

Drugs do not devalue my rights or decrease the value of my money.
