Protection Sought for U.S. Legal Workers, not Illegal Aliens WASHINGTON, April 16 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Hundreds of south Floridians will gather this Saturday to demonstrate their support for policies that prevent illegal aliens from obtaining jobs legal U.S. workers desperately need. With a statewide unemployment rate of 9.4% and a stagnant economy, Floridians want reduced competition for jobs from those who have no legal right to work. Rally attendees will emphasize the need for enhanced worksite enforcement, an end to day-labor centers that cater to illegal workers and unscrupulous employers, and call for the permanent reauthorization of E-Verify - the nation's worker eligibility verification program - as sound solutions to keep illegal aliens from competing for a shrinking pool of jobs.
The rally comes on the heels of two illegal immigration-related reports issued this week by the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR). The first, Costs of Illegal Immigration to Floridians finds that providing education and health care to illegal aliens and their families, and incarcerating criminal illegal aliens, costs state taxpayers more than $3.8 billion annually, more than double the costs measured in 2005. The second, a Zogby International poll of 801 likely voters across the state found that, by an overwhelming margin, Floridians believe that illegal immigration is harming their state.
"Voters in Florida want their elected officials in Washington and Tallahassee to protect their interests, their jobs, and their tax dollars from the impact of mass illegal immigration," said event organizer Joyce Mucci. "At a time when the Obama administration is intent on systematically dismantling immigration enforcement, and congressional leaders are considering a new round of amnesty legislation, voters are saying unequivocally that it is time political leaders stopped pandering to the illegal immigration lobby, and started enforcing laws that serve the interests of ordinary Americans."

* knowingly assists illegal aliens due to personal convictions.
Penalties upon conviction include criminal fines, imprisonment, and forfeiture of vehicles and real property used to commit the crime. Anyone employing or contracting with an illegal alien without verifying his or her work authorization status is guilty of a misdemeanor. Aliens and employers violating immigration laws are subject to arrest, detention, and seizure of their vehicles or property. In addition, individuals or entities who engage in racketeering enterprises that commit (or conspire to commit) immigration-related felonies are subject to private civil suits for treble damages and injunctive relief. |
