They need to learn english as quickly as possible so as to be able to communicate. It is important in finding work and the many things that we take for granted. |

They should go home? Nice, everyone. Because every struggling, starving immigrant has LOADS of time and resources to learn English before fleeing their country. Forget all that "give me your poor huddled masses" nonsense, right? Ignorant idiots
My grandparents learned English AFTER they came to the U.S. And they did just fine. |

I think it's their right under the First Amendment to speak any language they want to. |

I think they are called tourists, which could be a very good thing for the economy. Most tourist like to visit New York, San Francisco and New Orleans, I say let them spend their money and help our economy grow. |

It is great as long have a tourist or vistor visa, & spend their money here. Tourism is good for the economy. As long as they left after their visa expires. |

There aren't very many of them. Usually, a non-Spanish speaker learns English. But the Spanish speakers can go their whole lives without learning English because they are UNASSIMILATED. They have little communities of their own and they don't need to learn English. This undermines America's unity. |

I think thay are very brave because they are jumping into the unknown, it show's great charecter (in my mind). They are willing to risk it all and work hard to learn the language and follow their dream... |

If,you enter what ever part of the world, and you enter there land YOU should speak what ever language they speak. France French,USA English,Mexico Spanish,etc....I,can't stand the people who demand that we have to speak their language in our own part of the world. This doesn't show any respect when you are the one who is coming to their neck of the woods, sorta speaking ya know....have a good day. |

It's funny how we welcome them and their cultural diversity with open arms, and then expect them to conform to our ways, and chastise and harass them if they don't. Whoever said that English had to be the universal language? |

Learn the English language, become a legal citizen or go back to your country and stay there. No Exceptions |

My girlfriend's family moved here from Korea and they hardly speak English, but they've been able to run a successful beauty supply store. But also, many people of the same age group (30-50) from Korea also have not mastered English. They understand the limitations that there are, but they are able to still survive. Korean's have a way of keeping to themselves though. Most people don't make a HUGE deal of it though because they are not a majority-minority... and they're not ILLEGAL |

I agree with alb, they should go home. There are ways to learn English within their own country. |

I have no problem with people coming here who do not speak English, just don't expect me to try and understand you and help you if you do not try and learn English. That goes for Spanish speakers as well.
If you want to succeed in this country, learn ENGLISH! |

Most people who come from other countries learn the English language when they get here. Spanish speakers are the only ones that get catered to for some odd reason. So they don't really need to learn it. Everything is translated for them. Which is a total joke..... |

For tourists, it is fine. I think people who come to reside here should expect and intend to speak the language of the country they are immigrating to. I don't have a problem with whatever language they speak at home so long as they teach their children fluent English before the children enter school. ESL students slow down instruction for other students. While we try to accommodate those legally here, those whose parents came here illegally should be bending over backwards not to further burden the education of other children this way.
Essentially, I think the person coming here should try to fit in here. I also think there is a reasonable period where people should be able to learn a language without being ragged on. I think if you are trying you should be reasonably fluent by the end of two years, however. |

I think they should learn English, and givin a time allotment on doing so if they cant speak english within that time then they should not be granted citizenship and be sent home. |
