What do you think of the immigration debate?

I understand the immigrants side of view, but they have to understand ours too. It's a matter of what is legal and what isn't. There is nothing to question. All countries have immigration laws. Even Americans have to go through immigration if they want to reside, work, invest,etc in another country, so what is so "racists" about applying the law?

I wish everybody could respect the time we all have together. The mexicans are fine and fundamentally proud people. They need a fair break if they have been here for a long period. The additional ones coming in need to go through a closed boarder process and immigrate as any other nationality.

i think we made immigration laws for a reason, although right now they arent good enough. We need a much more comprehensive immigration reform if we want it to work. I think that people who are here illegally should be confronted about that somehow, although i dont know in what way.

It's kinda like who let the dogs out.I wonder whats really going on that they chose right now to try and fix something that has been broken since the Alamo.It is like it is a smoke screen to cover up something else they are doing that they don't want the press getting nosey about.But it is always going to be something.

I dont have a problem with them coming, this is AMERICA. But if they are gonna be here and enjoy the same freedoms as US CITIZENS then make them pay taxes.

Actually, it is a serious problem. Undocumented immigrants - "illegal aliens" - can be exploited by employers. They are willing to take jobs for less than everyone else, driving down the pay for some fields, and they often don't have health coverage. I understand that getting proper documentation to get a work visa in the US can take quite a bit of time, but if they don't they can seriously be exploited.
They also don't pay taxes, and their getting jobs that otherwise would go to unemployed americans, or legal immigrants, can really have adverse effects on the economy.
While I don't think they should be classified as felons for it, there does need to be some regulation.

I cross ocean, poor and broke,
Take bus to see employment folk.
Nice man treat me good in there,
Say I need go and see welfare.
Welfare say, "You come no more,
We send cash straight to your door."
Welfare checks, they make you wealthy,

its useless- send 'em back OR cancel all free benefits to non citizens- and to citizens that are able to work. that way they are at least forced to carry their own weight. there's too many freeloaders in the u.s. regardless of race color or creed

well since getting on a bus is harder than getting across the border i say that we put in sniper/machine gun towers every 100 yards across the border and shoot anyone trying to cross...

I think it is too late to just now be thinking about major immigration reform. There are too many illegal aliens to just start mass deportation. This is something that the government should have evaluated more than 30 years ago. Those that are here should be allowed to stay and new laws should only apply to new immigrants from the time the law passes and forward. There should be no special concessions for one group of immigrants over another (i.e. Cubans, Mexicans, Haitians or any other group of people).

When it comes down to the subject of immigration,they always talk about the Mexican border.What about the Canadian border?Why focus on just the Mexicans? and why is it that a boat stuck out in the Caribbean sea full of Cubans can come 2 shore,but a boat full of Haitians can't?I think the immigration debate is nothing but pure b--lsh-t!!!We should have just one immigration policy that applies to all equally.

Unnecessary. What we need is enforcement of the existing laws. Round up all the illegals and send them back to where they come from. They broke the law.

They are not criminals.. outlaws or fugitives.. they are family people who come to this country for the american dream.. for a better future for themselves and their families..

most of these people make minimun wage busting there behinds all day in hot sun for only a few dollars. .

My concern about the immigration debate is the rule of law. This is being lost in America. Our President can lie before a judge and not get the same sentence as others. People are allowed to commit crimes like the lady who registered 13 dead people to vote last week and got off with probation. Now 10/11/12 million people are going to be allowed to break our laws and get away with it?

I understand why they (immigrants)do it although I do not agree (at all) i.e. in Mexico, minimum daily salary is 4 USD, FOUR dollars for an entire day of work... What I believe is that u can't blame someone to try to live better and make more money for their children doing the exact same effort at work. Immigrants seize the fact that most Americans have more and better opportunities than them of having a well-paid job so it leaves them many activities to do such as working 12 hours at a restaurant's kitchen or cleaning bathrooms from Monday to Sunday. Obviously immigration should be stopped / regulated / controlled but also respected because all humans deserve respect, specially if they only want to have freedom of speech, and sometimes they only want to have enough money to eat something everyday and not any given day.

It would help their cause a lot if they looked like they actually want to be american. It's intimidating to some to hear them all shouting in spanish, as I'm sure it would be if we went to Mexico waving american flags and shouted in english.

well once again i dont believe they should be here illegally they should become legal pay taxes learn english and recieve fines instead of being shipped back to wherever they come from its ridiculous how far we have to go out of our own lifestyles to accomodate them
