I live in Canada and I want to sponsor my future American spouse for immigration. I'm living with my parents until after my fiance immigrates. I don't have an income besides some minimal benefits from an insurance company from a car accident I was in. If I don't qualify as a sponsor because of my lack of income, what will happen to his citizenship application when they deny my sponsorship application? We've been together for four years and want to finally start our real lives together in Canada, but I'm unfortunately unable to work at the moment and he wouldn't qualify in any other category to immigrate.
So basically my question is.. if they turn me down as a sponsor, do they just chuck his citizenship application?
Also.. is there any other way to get around this? Say if he gets a work permit and is working in Canada at the time he applies for citizenship while he's married to a Canadian?
Additional Details
We are actually going to be getting married in the fall. And you're right, I do mean permanent residence. So if he is working in Canada with a work permit after we get married, that will probably up the chance of him qualifying by a lot?

You can have co-sponsor as well...your parents...or the working visa is a great possibility because he can be included in a household income.He can start applying for a job now :-) |

YES they will close his application and he will be denied.
If you are on long term EI or DISABILITY or Workers Comp, then you can still be a sponsor. They will accept the application.
If you are on unemployment insurance (as opposed to EI which you paid into) you will be denied. In Ontario this is called Ontario Works.
2 - is there any other way to get around this?
If he can get a work permit, he can work in Canada for 24 full months at a full time job, then after the 24 months, he can apply for PR status - but he will need to continue working on the work permit while the application is being processed.

ALSO if he does this process, then he CANNOT be married while he is undergoing this process. He must wait until he is landed before he can be married.
As soon as he married a Canadian, the application must be a spousal application. Anything else and he gets denied.
And NO CIC does NOT accept any co-sponsor for spousal applications. Canada will only allow co-sponsors for refugee applicaitons where a group is sponsoring a refugee.
