What happens when you are deported from Australia?

Hi...

I have a friend living over here with me and he has been on a 3 month tourist visa. he has stayed longer than 3 months (4 months more!!) and inevitably (spelling? lol) will he be deported when he tries to leave.

he is unsure what happens to him when he tries to board his flight. will he be kept in jail or a cell for any length of time? will he be allowed on the flight he booked? will he be put in handcuffs for the duration of the flight? also will he be allowed to return to Australia in the future if he wishes?

all and any information would be a real help. any links would also be appreciated.

The worst that will happen is that he'll probably get a no entry for 3 years stamp in his passport. If he's catching a flight out of Australia of his own free will, he won't be arrested and he won't be detained and they won't slap handcuffs on him.

Different answer if he's been caught overstaying and is being deported, but I don't think that's what you're asking.

I honestly can't imagine why they would put him in jail when he doing what they want - leaving the country!
They may make a stink and put nasty stamps in his passport, but I can't imagine it would be more than that.
Yes his ability to come back may be affected - good luck.
It might help if he had a good story (lie) made up already as to why he decided to stay longer.
"He met this girl and thought it was going to get serious but it didn't work out..." type of thing.

He'll probably have a bar put on his passport banning him for reentry - 2-3 years is the normal period of the ban. But then he might find it hard to get another holiday visa as he has a bad track record.

No he will be taken to a detention center for processing and then taken back home to his native country and it's very unlikely that he will be allowed back into Australia.

What happens if you are denied entry into australia and being sent back home from airport. My husband was given tourist visa and he has been offered a job whilst being on tourist visa. He wanted to use up the final tourist visa period (expiring every 3 months) but upon arrival he was denied entry. But his prospect employer have given him sponsorship which is still under processing and we have been advised that it will not affect the business visa application. Is this true?
