What if anything will change illegal immigration?

It isn't 'silent amnesty'. It is rejecting a bigger problem couched as a solution in order to properly solve the problem with a better plan.

ANYTHING involving a guest worker program needs the visa exit tracking system as a trigger, for starters. They keep putting that off, despite CURRENT legal requirements. Nothing they are doing is increasing credibility of the government on this issue.

edit, it is already mandated and the date has passed. Homeland Security testified to the Judiciary Committeee (I'm pretty sure that was the committee) this spring that it wasn't cost effective (towards catching terrorists, rather than illegal immigrants) to put it in place by its new delayed date. I'll get the name. They already have an automated system for students which is how they caught those 11 Egyptian students who absconded rather than reporting to Universities last summer, within 10 days. However, most of he rest of the I-94s have to be manually searched, and are not in a database to flag overstayers as they should be.

Here is a summary of something tagged into the current Homeland Security funding:

I don't think having Homeland Security admit it 'can't be done' in 5 years is sufficient. I think it needs to be done. If they can track them coming in, why CAN'T they track them leaving?

Start charging the criminals that hire them and put them in jail. I really don't care that most are Republicans using them for slave labor.

Maybe those that hire them can be worked as slave laborers instead of getting rich off their backs and pawning the rest of the upkeep onto us!

I think we have been through this before. Once legal they will want to be paid so the rich will just go out and find some more illegals! It is a cycle that will not be broken until the rich stop being coke heads and criminal employers. They get away with it! Those whose backs they made their money do not!

all i know is they do not deserve any amnesty. the legal immigrants was not given amnesty, they payed to come here. because of illegals it's putting a hold on the ones who is trying to come in the right way. i don't think gang bangers should be included in anything. they need to be deported with out any questions asked. i think Americans are mad at this bunch of illegals because of what they did. they burned out flags and demanded rights when they are illegal. if they want to be here that bad, then they need to do it legally. no amnesty.

Evidently there has been dialog that I have missed, so I will only give a brief overview of my position. Immigration laws already exist. Your statements about "trust the government" and "can't go back on" do not fit into that basic truth. We should have been able to trust the government to enforce the laws that already existed... they did not. My position is just start enforcing the laws that already exist. Why, when it becomes unpopular with a large group of voters do politicians just decide to change the law? Why do supporters of immigration reform want to blame those who oppose it for the plight of the immigrants instead of those who chose to break the law? Why would we want to give citizenship to millions of people who decided that their very first act in connection to our country was to commit a criminal act? I have no opposition to immigration. Any of us who are not descendants of "American Indians" are part of families that came from somewhere else. I am VERY against illegal immigration...... simply because it is..... ILLEGAL!!

Illegal immigration would stop if opportunities in Mexico were at least as good as they are here. It would slow considerably if we were serious about patrolling the borders and monitoring visa-overstayers. But the best way to stop illegal immigration is to have high LEGAL immigration quotas.

If they were going to actually screen people to make sure the POS get out and they enfoced our border....and I mean REALLY enforce our border then maybe.

But, so far all I have heard are a bunch of promises that we have heard before that were never kept.

See what happens when you don't keep a promise? No one believes you the next time.

If they would do the following....

Build a fence,
Enforce our existing laws
Set up some kind of screening, and I mean real screening to get those that don't belong out. (Criminal, Health, and proof of how long they have been here) Anyone with a criminal record, health problems/diseases, or cannot prove that they have been here at least 10 years...OUT!!!
Repeal the 14th Amendment and make it that one parent is a citizen
Make social benefits only for those that are citizens

IF they can show that they are going to do these simple things then maybe. But, as it stands now, and the way that the bill is set up...no. I am even willing to let those that have been here for a while (at least 10 years) that are hardworkers stay.

All I want is something realistic. This is nothing but a bandaid that is going to cause more problems. I am tired of my tax dollars being spent on special programs for people that aren't even legally here all the while I am sitting here paying $4000 a year to make sure my son gets a decent education.

I answered your last question. Your ideas were good,but they are not in the pending bill.
1.There is no order to secure the borders immediately,nor hire more border control. It should be the first thing done before anything else is even talked about. We all know this will never be done because they do not want the borders secure.
2.While the electronic visa is a great idea,they are now trying to get the whole idea of any sort of national ID axed from the bill.
3.There is no provision to require them to register within 60 days nor get a physical within 30 days.
4. No mention of deportation if they don't full fill the requirements.

I have no problem with people working towards citizenship as long as they have been here working,been a contributing member of society,and are willing to be an American. I do have a problem with the provision to give all of them immediate legal status. There is no requirement for them to do anything else,ever. That is where the amnesty comes in. A reward is given for an illegal activity with no penalty.

The gov tried something like this in 1986 and 1965 and they didn't secure the borders and it was back to more of the same. So what makes you think this will be any different?

It is my opinion that our immigration laws are quite silly and that we need to rectify how we deal with immigration. Any sort of bill that goes through congress needs three things. 1. amnesty (or some form of it) 2. increased enforcement/visa tracking 3. guest worker program.

Without those three things none of the others will ever work.

1. Our government let them into the country in the first place and they are integrated into America. Many of them want to participate in the US. Let em stay.

2. We don't have room to continue to harbor record amount of immigrants we need some sort of regulation. And possibly make it easier/cheaper for people to immigrate legally.

3. America seems dependent on some form of slave labor so I guess America needs a guest worker program. Although I'm not sure on that one.

The passing will put 12 million more officially on social security and welfare. Granted their kids get welfare, but the parents don't. Also, the passage makes them eligible for free / next to free housing and on and on. Get ready to open your pocketbook even wider.

Nothing will change illegal immigration.It will continue to happen unless somehow the US wastes a lot of money try to kick all of them out and then constructs several walls and uses the military to guard the border.Or they could spend that money trying to fix the Latin American countries,although this too would probably just as quickly backfire.Were screwed,well at least you are.I'm on the other side of the agenda so if it works out I'll probably end up pretty good.Lol looking back I can't even think of a way to have avoided this from happening unless you somehow went back in time and murdered several other peoples.Too bad.
