What if the government did it's job and secured the border like it says it's duty is to do in the Constitution?
We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.
I wonder, how can we insure domestic tranquility and provide for the common defense with an unopposed foreign invasion of our southern border? |

I have to agree with GeorgiaPeach.
My father served this country in both WW II and Korea. His back was broken in WW II and we fought the government until January of last year when my father died, trying to get the benefits he should have been entitled to for over 50 years. Why should illegal aliens, who have never sacrificed anything more than a hang nail for this country, be given land when my parents lived on a small disability pension and died paupers, never having been able to afford to buy a house, let alone an acre of land?
For that matter, I've been paying taxes into this system since I was 15 years old. Where is my free acre of land? It takes my fiance's salary and my salary with nothing left over at the end of the month, just to live in this illegal alien infested state. I damn sure would not vote to give them land, but I'd vote to give them a free ride home. I'll drive the freakin' bus!

Well, as a Native American, I don't think we need anymore Reservations, first of all. Second, why are we giving them land? They are here ILLEGALLY. Why are we rewarding them for that? I think they should go home and have to fill out the application. If it's so terrible they can't go back, they should petition for amnesty (we do have amnesty here for those who are in danger you know!). And having the INS monitor them to make sure they don't break any laws???? They already DID! And I've not seen one illegal "in hiding"........ or did your town not have a parade full of them fighting against bills aimed at sending them packing? |

Free land? I don't think that is right. I had to pay for my land, and I am a legal citizen. They need to do the same.
As for three stikes, they should only get one if they are not a citizen, and that one strike is being here illegally. Just apply. That's all I ask. Just TRY to get legal. Then I think they have every right to be here. But not those who buck the system and refuse to even apply. They need to go. |

Yeah.... That makes sense. Just GIVE them land. Hell why not build them a couple house on the land, and while we are at it, make them tax exempt for life.... This is without a doubt the dumbest idea I have ever heard regarding this issue. |

*sigh* .. what if .. we remembered how most of our ancestors got to be Americans in the first place. If we stopped being afraid and if we really pulled together as a nation -- sharing both the benefits and the burdens that immigrants might bring.
Open up the immigration process -- make it easier to legally immigrate and provide federal assistance to any city/state that absorbs and services high numbers of immigrants -- to the extent that basic human needs are "given" to all citizens as well as those aspiring to be. Immigrants have always provided to the labor force, to the cadre of inventors and innovators in this country.
Where immigrants are not positive contributors -- it's more a failure of our other systems -- welfare /law enforcement/ justice than that of immigrants as a whole.
Stop looking for easy simple answers, there are none. Trust in the power and resources of this great country and in our history -- which respected immigrants enough not to try to make their lives too easy -- but encouraged them to work hard to become Americans with their own "American dream" realized. |

Why should my tax money pay for free land for illegals? There are millions of poor Americans who don't own land and never will because they can't afford it. If my money is going to pay for anyone to have free land. My parents died without ever being able to afford to buy land or a house. My husband's father died the same and his 87 year old mother owns nothing, and will die without owning land or a home. These are just 2 families that have never had money to buy land but always wanted to. There are millions more like them. The government should take care of the citizens of this country before providing anything to criminals. Until all Americans have affordable medical care that covers all medical problems, and a home to live in, I don't think illegals should be given anything at all. Yes, that includes medical care or housing! If they come over here, I don't want my tax money to provide them a free living. Everyone I have spoken to about this feels the same way I do. We are sick of seeing the government take care of illegals while Americans are doing without. Of course, this doesn't affect the wealthy, so they don't care. Most people who have money don't have a clue how poor people live and all the things they do without. |
