What is a good bank to open a US account (as a Canadian)?

I'm going to school in the US and I want to open up an american bank account. First of all, am I allowed to, since I am not American? Secondly, what bank would you suggest? I was thinking Bank of America. Any suggestions?

and does anyone know if there is a minimum deposit required for opening an account?

Bank of American is the easiest and in my eyes the best.
You can go online and start the process for an account and it will be 25.00 minimum to open.

Well, if you are allowed, I would go to Wells Fargo. That's my bank, and they were one of the few major ones that didn't need a bailout and actually made money last quarter.

Wells Fargo or US Bank or FNBO Direct.... OR Royal Bank of Canada, they have branches here.
