Why should we in the U.S. care about the plight of ILLEGAL immigrants when we have our Own to help!!

Why shouldn't we as bad for the poor in the U.S. as much as others feel sorry for those in other countries? How is what happened in New Orleans any different than the Asian tsunami? Why should it be 'self pity' for us to aknowelge our fellow citizens who are living in squallar? Anyone can see the U.S. is becomming a two tier economy. It's been heading in that direction for quite a while now, and there's no sign things will change for the better. If you don't know what a two tier economy is, please look it up and educate yourself! Almost all of the income growth in the States since 1975 has been for the richest 20 percent of households. Today the economic gap between between rich and poor in the United States is greater than ever. There's nothing like taking a walk around your (bank-owned) house, then going outside and kneeling down in your (bank-owned) lawn and grabbing a handful of (the bank's) dirt to make you realize how precious (their) land is. Americans aren't that 'rich'! lol.

Why are Americans above all nations so self-delusional? They aren't that rich, majority are poor. They work longer hours for things they will prob. never REALLY own. They have to BORROW more, as in credit cards. The american education system is laughable. No health care. What does the U.S. REALLY have going for it besides WEAPONS??!!!!!! Nothing......

Didn't the Roman empire died eventually? Why do Americans think that it will continue to be the "world leader" in anything? Many, many people around the world don't like Americans because they believe they are full of themselves.

Why shouldn't the world feel as bad for the poor in the U.S. as americans feel about others? Is it a feeling of superiority?? Possibly?

What about New Orleans?? PEOPLE STARVED TO DEATH WHILE THE U.S. GOV. WATCHED ON T.V.!!! What about the elderly and the children who are "lost"?

That's when someone comes to your country uninvited, takes your job, changes your language, disregards your culture and then wants you to pay for it. At least that's how it works in the US.

People will try and have you believe that being "civilized" means being just like them. I find no need for anyone to assimilate, and I dont think there is a way for immigrants to do so since we are all so different. Our differences is what makes this country so great. I dont want everyone to lose their heritage and be just like me, that is not interesting! Be yourself and let everyone else just deal with it.

The U.S. needs to be unified. Immigrants need to assimilate so they can make the entire nation stronger and more unified and that makes everyones lives better. I was born outside of the U.S. but my family and I and everyone else from our culture has assimilated fine. We don't just drop our own heritage, culture, etc... We are proud of who we are but out loyalty now belongs to the U.S. and I want my life and everyone elses lives here to be better and getting assimilated has made our lives much easier and I am thankful that we are that way. A divided country will not survive for long just as a divided family (for example) will not last. It's pretty hard to keep a unified family when 3 out of 5 people speak only English, 1 of them speaks only Spanish and the other only French, just as an example.

Don't invade another country expecting free handouts. Don't expect people to have to learn your language in order to communicate with you. Don't steal people's social security numbers and identification. Don't badmouth the country, burning the flag or hanging the flag upside down underneath the flag of your own country. Don't protest claiming the country as yours while displaying your own country's flag (this is an indication of attack). Don't break the immigration laws. Obey the other laws. It's not the responsibility of the new country to cater to your needs. Don't be a leech on the new country.

Assimilation is to blend in, to be a part of a society. Some immigrants are good at this, while others are not.

assimilation is like be like everyone else....for example:

when the native americans came to this country..the US government wanted them to be like us, be civilized, and dress like an american, speak the same lanuguage...that's assimilation...it also comes from the word "similar"

I'm Latina and I try my best to assimilate with other races. I see everyone's point whites, african-americans,latinos etc. people stereotype us Latinos because whether we admit it or not we do things that we even know is not right. Although some people are really harsh and think that all of us Latinos are bad. I am not like that I speak english. My parents did not teach me spanish, they think there is no need for that and if I assimilate with "Americans" my future would be brighter and better. I'm glad my parents raised me to be who I am right now.
