What is poor?

I had a friend mention to me--and correctly so--that many who come here illegally are not poor (just an excuse)
One told me when they were in their country half the day was spent just getting daily water.
They would have gladly love to have their place which they left to come here illegally. So it would seem to others that some are not as poor as they think just not as rich as they want to be.
So when is poor enough an acceptable reason to enter a country illegally in your view?
And how long should it take before they made enough to sustain them and set themselves up? Or is it a matter of -it is never enough ? Or will be enough?
What is your view? Additional Details In answer to some
They walked very far-rather than take from their neighbor's well. And there were some. It would have been easier but to them not worth the breaking of their principles
My Ancestors didn't steal the land --check some records in museums--many fought side by side with their Indian brothers to stop bulling tribes and people from Mexico trying to enslave and take from them. There were no land laws than. But greed and selfishness was in all of the Nations. But it wasn't all that had those traits -please if you want to recite history -please do it correctly and show all the facts, One side of a story is a lie and used by the worst of people. And to make-up one shows a very awful trait
Agreed many very poor support the animals they know people can be so selfish and not worth the effort since that selfishness is so entrenched in some .They even keep pets.
Some must be living in a Cave to think we have no homeless .We have millions Check the web-why

Poor in my eyes is, if you have to struggle every single day to get food on the table for your family. If you have not the money to buy even clothes. I have been in India where I did see little children dismantling Batteries barehanded. I have seen poverty at his worst. Still those people were very rich. They did uphold a set of values and did stick to them. They even wanted to share the little they had. And I like to react to a "Real deal", You talk about WW2, well I can tell you that I have seen almost the same level of that in the country's I have been too. And that is all over the world. What about the veterans in your country? They fought for their country and have to live of very little now. So please do not tell me in the states they do not understand. Go live with the people there now, who have to live from almost nothing. It is right under your nose and you do not see it. Then you talk very degrading about saving animals. That tells me your mindset. And to be honest, I rather save an animal ......Animals can not speak out for themselves, and need our protection more, because people with the same mindset are mistreating them and wiping them out. And another thing, the reason there is still this poverty in the world is due to corrupt governments and hypocrisy. I can agree with, Mystery and fire there, they uphold no values. Then you call us fakers and posers......mm mm, interesting to hear that from you......I think you certainly will know that those words mean?? That's all Iam gonna say for now, because I do not want to blow my top off. But nobody can call me a fake or a poser. Iam here under my REAL ID...!!! Awell, if you want to report me, go ahead, see if I care. But you also can be for real and answer me on this...... |

Poor is when you can't afford anything to live on. It is not just wanting a better life.
We have many poor. Many do not take what isn't theirs even to the point of death. It's called values .
Self -Righteous is not a dirty word if it is balanced. As some would like you to believe. Another ploy like the word racist used to played down the issue. Since corruption and lack of values, selfishness has remained entrenched for so long, some assume that it is just part of human nature, which is not the case.
The obvious first step in curbing corruption no matter what form it comes in, is to recognize that corruption is destructive and wrong, since it benefits the unscrupulous to the detriment of others. And to speak out against it. What is required is a much more difficult step, a change of heart or, rather, a change of many hearts. People everywhere must learn to hate bribery and corruption and wrong of all kinds. Only then will it disappear.
Seems now some for personal reasons of their own they want to excuse it . The fight against corruption is a moral one that cannot be won by petty tactics of saying self- righteous is the problem. The problem is those who make excuses for things that are wrong. We wants each and every one of us to replace greed with unselfishness and corruption with righteousness. That is the problem with many troubles today. "Hypocrites" who say they want a better world but allow or feel that some can break laws and should be allowed to what isn't rightfully theirs. It righteous people don't denounce wrong in every way bad will grow and it will not make for a better world. I'll take an honest self-righteous person who speaks out over wrong any day .I don't want people who defends what is wrong to represent my values
.
Living by honest standards has often meant earning a lot less money. Yet many people do it. I feel for those less fortunate but not to the point I would defend or bury my head to wrong. Or encourage such practices. What does that solve and what would that say about you?
Being poor is not an acceptable reason to enter a country illegally.
And in answer to your other questions, seems many stayed beyond getting the necessities they claimed they needed. With some there will be never enough, they have no loyalty but to the almighty dollar.
Add-on--the only fakes and posers are the ones who are trying to act like they have intelligence or class and joining or talking about causes they know nothing about.. And going on and on and on and on like that . For years even. WE all know them.
Even the Rockefellers and Trumps know we have poor people here in America. Some must not have traveled much if you don't know other countries do have social programs. Just not like ours often.
I have seen very poor who give and share not of their excess but of their very livelihood. They know good values. And I have seen many plead for the animal's cause. You see, they know human nature is often blinded by greed and self importances
Also being ignorant doesn't mean they are poor in values. Sometimes the whole family does have to work it might be a pity but it isn't a crime. |

I think some enter for good reason ....and some others don't ....but I do know one thing their is poverty in every country ...........for one to say it doesn't exist they need to take a good look at homeless people .....how about people who are unable to take care of themselves due to medical illnesses or disabilities ...or minorities that have inequalities ..........poor .....exist every where ...in every place .......it's about helping each other ...not about who is who or what is what .......shame ...out of all of these answers not one person has said I would like to help someone .....hhhmmmm ....makes you wonder .....so answer this question to yourself what have I done for someone lately without expecting anything in return.......and be honest with yourself .... |

Poor is a lot of older vets I see on the street, homeless, some just really looking for a hot meal and a little dignity. Is being poor an acceptable reason to allow someone to illegally enter a country? NO. Why? Like I just said, with so many of our own citizens homeless and living beyond a poverty level, I feel it is wrong for someone to escape into a counrty illegally and use the "I'm broke and I will guilt someone into helping me" role. That may sound a little mean, but the so-called "poor" were the same ones living it up at U.B. while I was struggling between books, tuition, and rent. So I don't fall for the escaping to prosperity argument. |

I think all the illegal aliens should go home and lead a revolt against their own countries. They want a better life, well what would they do if they could not come here illegally? They would do as countries like Kosovo have done... rebel, revolt and change things. If the majority of the est. is 12 million or so illegals is Mexican ( I think it is closer to 20 - 30 million.) Why dont they just organize and revolt against their own? Mexico is like the 12th wealthiest country in the world. Its not like they dont have what they need, its just easier to come take it from us than to demand it from their own! If you look at other countries around the world, when they are not able to obtain the things they need... they go through revolutions and civil wars. With the majority of Mexicans seemingly in such need, why are they so afraid to take if from those in Mexico who have it? We're too easy... easy pickings. |

Poor is something no one in the states understands or has lived in any way since WWII. I see thumb downs for some good answers that tells me the mindset here.
People here THINK they're poor when in reality it's their attitudes. Ppl in other countries have seen true poverty. You might condemn the woman in Africa for having 7 kids she can't feed but the reality is she has that many hoping ONE will survive to adulthood to take care of her in her old age. Other countries don't have the social programs to feed families we do or homes to put your aging now useless parents. I get a kick out of the self rightous on here. Save an animal but let a HUMAN suffer and die. How wonderfully humanitarian some of you are. Drop a puppy from a cliff and my god it's world news. 5000 women in Juarez get murdered going to work or coming home and it takes Hollywood who everyone condemns to bring that atrocity to light. But still no one cares. Children leaving school at age 10 to work and no one cares. Yeah you're all humanitarians alright. You're fakes and posers. |

Poor as in pitiful due to being harmed by your own country. Dar-fur is an example of true poor. If a country is poor, a wealthier country may send help to the other country to try to create a better life within its own borders. If a opportunity to get an education for a person exists in a country for a child, the parents can earn wages by them obtaining them legally in a country, they should take the education back to their native land and start a business there with savings they earned in the wealthier country. The money will be worth more and buy more also. Then they can feed their community and start a economy there. If they need to overturn their government and gain independence that is up to those living their by joining together and doing so. It had to be done in the USA in the 1700s and the people who gained by it are those who's family did this. Not all people who have anything in this country are wealthy and are just getting by even though it took generations to get them that far. Their roots are deep and their history makes them defend their country as their home.
I can't afford to place my mother in a home and I would not do it as it is not the best place in the world. I am taking care of her and my husband as well as myself. I am not wealthy and cannot get programs for medicine. Do not say I do not understand the standards of being poor. The state of poor is relevant to a country. I paid into programs for my need and I do not appreciate not being able to use them when I do need them. I would be glad to help the other countries with donations after I care for my own needs and family as well as my fellow countryman, but I will not fight a war for them or constantly give them things while hurting my neighbors. I will keep trying to crawl up the ladder so I can help my fellow countrymen first. I feel that others are welcome in when they act like guests, not owners. This is my country and my home that generations of family have cleared land and worked in low wage jobs to keep while living in homes with no running water or lights. Let them earn wages while here, save them and return to their own countries where the money goes farther, buy land and start their own proserity with the knowledge they get for free while being here. I feel upset that anyone would say we have it too good to understand what it is like to do without. We may be blessed, but it was a generational gain. Give a man a fish, he eats one day, Teach him to fish he eats a lifetime. The question is will he do it for himself or put out a hand again. If your trying to make illegal immigration right, it is a crime, it is wrong and it is a danger to our sovreignty. How would you like someone to move in your house and stay while you take care of him forever. There are immigration quotas and unless they are suffering from tyranny, it is not right to intrude while others wait. Get in line like all of us. |

The USA is not the only country with immigration issues, even Jamaica has people coming from Haiti. Europe is a melting pot like the USA now.
People immigrate, because they have ambition and greed, like your forefathers. who killed the natives and took their land to settle here.. |

Poor is when your mother and father can't read or write and have worked the fields their entire lives. When your father is physically incapacitated and can no longer work those fields your mother takes you out of school (which you walked to and didn't eat the entire day, there is no cafeteria and there is not enough food for a sack lunch) along with your siblings to work those same fields, its not having the money for food, shoes, clothing, electricity or running water. Its not having the money for insulin or high blood pressure medication IF you could afford to see the doctor (which is 50 miles away and there is no car) This is part of what I know and I am sure there are more stories, does it make crossing the border illegally OK? No it doesn't, does it make me understand why they do it? Yes it does. And in regards to your friend who spent half the day looking for water, ask him or her if there was water several miles away but they were told they could not cross a line to get it if they would have anyway? Most people here are too self righteous, they have no idea what real suffering is. |

Poor is all a matter of opinion. Financially poor doesn't mean unprosperous, nor does being fabulously happy with life mean you're filthy rich.
But, to the point:
Poor has nothing to do with having an acceptable reason to illegally enter a country. People both rich and poor enter countries illegally for a variety of reasons. Some are in it to become wealthy, some to get back together with family and loved ones, some for spying, some for defrauding that government, some are attempting escape from a corrupt government, some are attempting escape from a prison sentence, and many other reasons.
As far as whom are acceptable, that has more to do with politics. If you want spies in your country so you can feed them false information, then you let them in. If you want cheap laborers, then you let them in. If you need the extra population for more growth, then you let them in. Moral reasons.. financial reasons.. power.. whatever. If the politics of the day state all drug runners are needed, then you let them in, give them shelter, medical care, education, you name it, so long as they get there. There's always a reason. |

Illegal people that cross the border are poor, Poor people can't afford topay electricity, food, phone, car basicaly basic needs to survive but not only them but their family too. and for what I know they have to borrow money lot of money to hire some one that will show them the way in the States and some of them get killed on the way here so i think poor is when you are willing to sacrifice your like to make money for a house and food for your family, I don't think that anyone with money will cross ilegally to this country when they could just get a visa and cross over and then stay and might be caught and put in jail and finally be deported. The poor People in America wants to get money as mercy, everybody knows there are plenty of things someone can do to get money it's hard work but worthy. and BTW it's never enough$$ |

When you have to steal to eat , live in a box and can't afford a car to put gas in. THAT is poor.
No most of them aren't THAT poor. They want to have a better life yes - I know some personally. They make more per hour here and more in a shorter amount of time - plus US dollar is worth more than the peso. They maximize on this and they use money to build extravagant new houses and such.
There are city areas and rural areas like here. City is richer - rural areas are poorer. Most of those who come here are from the rural area. |
