It depends on the province. This website, Work Destinations: http://www.workdestinations.org/occupation_keyword_search.jsp?lang=en lets you look for your occupation and shows you links to the associations of nurses or licensing info for every province. You will most likely have to take some sort of exam.

I have heard that in BC, you can get licensed to work as a practical nurse right away, registered nurse later when you do the exam. If you want to check out BC and their need for nurses, you can find BC immigration at http://www.aved.gov.bc.ca/provincialnominee/strategicoccupations/healthprofessionals.htm

It's actually called "Licensure" in Canada, as a registered nurse in your own country you need to contact the nursing association in the province in which you wish to be licensed and request an out-of-country application package.

There's a fair bit of paperwork and documentation, but once you've done it they will asses whether or not you are elligable to do the Canadian Registered Nurse Examination. If you pass then you'll be given a provincial license to practice nursing in Canada.

You also have to apply for a canadian working visa.
