What scares you so much about illegals that have made lives here?
|
Ok I can understand why you wouldn't want new ones flooding in everyday and the gangs/drugs ppl. But why do the ones who been here like 15/20 years working keeping their noses clean and trying to be good Americans why do they scare you? Why don't they deserve a chance to make things right? Additional Details That's a silly analogy. I would expect some price to be paid then yeah I'd forget and forgive just as the law does a felon.

yes, they deserve a chance.no tolerance for felons and a chance to the others.
people like RR can't debate,that's all. |

In the mid-80's, many members of Congress — pushed by the Democratic majority in the House and the Select Commission on Immigration and Refugee Policy — advocated amnesty for long-settled illegal immigrants. President Reagan considered it reasonable to adjust the status of what was then a relatively small population, and I supported his decision.
In exchange for allowing aliens to stay, he decided, border security and enforcement of immigration laws would be greatly strengthened — in particular, through sanctions against employers who hired illegal immigrants. If jobs were the attraction for illegal immigrants, then cutting off that option was crucial.
Beyond this, most illegal immigrants who could establish that they had resided in America continuously for five years would be granted temporary resident status, which could be upgraded to permanent residency after 18 months and, after another five years, to citizenship.
Note that this path to citizenship was not automatic. Indeed, the legislation stipulated several conditions: immigrants had to pay application fees, learn to speak English, understand American civics, pass a medical exam and register for military selective service. Those with convictions for a felony or three misdemeanors were ineligible. Sound familiar? These are pretty much the same provisions included in the last Senate proposal and cited by its supporters as proof that they have eschewed amnesty in favor of earned citizenship.
The 1986 act did not solve our illegal immigration problem. From the start, there was widespread document fraud by applicants. Unsurprisingly, the number of people applying for amnesty far exceeded projections. And there proved to be a failure of political will in enforcing new laws against employers.
After a six-month slowdown that followed passage of the legislation, illegal immigration returned to normal levels and continued unabated. Ultimately, some 2.7 million people were granted amnesty, and many who were not stayed anyway, forming the nucleus of today's unauthorized population.
So here we are, 20 years later, having much the same debate and being offered much the same deal in exchange for promises largely dependent on the will of future Congresses and presidents.
Will history repeat itself? I hope not. |

Nothing "scares" me. I can understand why people want a better opportunity for themselves, their families. I just think it's unfair to the millions of people who go about it the right way. |

They are criminals. Anyway, if someone who has been here for 20 years and not legal yet, that's not the type of person the U.S. needs. How lazy can you possibly be. |

Not scared...insert the word disgusted. Here are the reasons.
500,000 violent illegals in US prisons, the huge number that use our hospital emergency rooms for child birth and do not pay, the cost of bilingual education, the protests with Mexican flags and the burning of the US flag, the fact our government allows it, the loss of construction jobs. |

Illegal is illegal.. If someone broke in your home and took your possessions 10 years ago would you say it's ok for them to keep your G-mothers wedding ring because they have been nice for 10 yrs? |

I think the thing that "scares" me the most is that the U.S. is supposed to be the most powerful nation on earth and we can't secure our own borders ... which means we citizens aren't safe in our own country and it means our government isn't doing its job. |

It SCARES me that SO MANY illegals have made live here ...and at the expense of US citizens in SO MANY different ways.
It scares me further that SO MANY of our elected politicians want to give SO MANY of these illegal arrivals citizenship.
Particulary when SO MANY of these people seem to care less about the USA and what our future will be or as one example to committ to learn English. |

I don't think anyone is scared of them. I think people just don't like or want change. America is changing. Different languages, different customs. It has always been everchanging, and people that are comfertable with what they have usually don't like it much.
It is all about good intentions, and in these cases I think that the people have proven to us (maybe not in the best way- but their intentions were good) that they could be upstanding members of our community. And they have earned, in my opinion, the right to be accepted into it. |

I don't blame the Illegals that come here to work [ and pay taxes] I blame our Gov. |

Not scared of them but am getting tired of paying for them. They do deserve a chance to make things right. By going back to wherever they came from and coming back legally. Just because they have been here 15/20 years and are still ignoring the laws does not mean they get a free pass. |

Because the excuse that they say "Because they are illegal" is a lame excuse. Is there is any other excuse? No. That's why the Government doesn't pay attention. I will be more scared of American mafiosos. |

They should have made it right from the beginning by applying legally. Not everyone who files gets to come into the country. That is for our safety. That's what hard for pros to accept as well as those who apply. That not all are accepted to come into the country. And those that have been accepted on visas then allow those visas to expire are the ones this country has let slip through the cracks. Red flags should have been going off with those visas illegals when drivers licenses after drivers licenses were being given out from many states. This government plan needs to take both the visa visitors, and illegals a bit more seriously. The illegals not being able to just invite themselves in for one thing. And the visas issued need monitoring a bit more closely by the government officials to make sure they leave when their time is up.
Judge sentences Hispanic men to learn English
The three will have to pass test in a year — or serve two years if they fail
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/23831149/
Note what the judge asked them.
"Do you think we are going to supply you with a translator all of your life?" the judge asked them.
This should be standard with any non-English speaking illegal or legal.
Edit: I don't buy your position and excuse for their being here. "Is poor and underqualified now a crime? If that's the case alot of ppl are criminals. Maybe they come here because of the poverty and want to rise above it."
Especially knowing that most come here for the money, to send the money back home to families, and then eventually leave the country, and go back to live a "better" life back home with their families.
It was the crime itself that got them where they are today. According to the article they are drug users. Even the best of white collar workers use drugs that cause them to do stupid things in life. Therefore poverty had nothing to do with it.
How aware are you to the fact that millions of U.S. citizens and legals would also like to rise above their own poverty here. Hmmmm. .. To date 7,000,000 U.S citizens living below poverty. Now even Middle Class citizens, and families are beginning to use government programs to off set going hungry.
The article doesn't say anything about their legal status for those who have jumped to conclusions.
And for those who refused to open the link and actually read the article in itself.
"The men, who faced prison for criminal conspiracy to commit robbery, can remain on parole if they learn to read and write English, earn their GEDs and get full-time jobs, Luzerne County Judge Peter Paul Olszewski Jr. said."
"The four, ranging in age from 17 to 22, were in a group that police said accosted two men on a street in May. The two said they were asked if they had marijuana, told to empty their pockets, struck on the head, threatened with a gun and told to stay off the block."
"Olszewski is known for outside-the-box sentencing.
He has ordered young defendants who are school dropouts to finish school. He often orders defendants to get full-time employment. But he also has his staff coordinate with an employment agency to help them find the jobs."
edit 2: See fellow antis'... given the judge has given them a choice, and opportunity to better their life, the pros are still unhappy. |

I don't like that the poorest least qualified come here. They often have no desire to become normal citizens in that they don't desire to integrate into American society. Many are not skilled so they need government help which makes them automatically democrats. There are plenty of people who want to come here legally. I say close the border and make it a crime to hire illegals.(just enforce the laws) I would love to give the opportunity to deserving law abiding people to take their place. |

everyone in the US except for the native Americans (Indians) came from another country. Isn't it just so damn stupid for people to be so mean? mean people just make me sick. I am white and God only knows how many different nationalities I have running through my veins and I don't care. but other people do. I have cousins who are native Americans and they hate me because I am white and others hate me because I have American Indians for cousins. how stupid is that? and I'm just white because God made me that way. I didn't plan to be. people who hate people are never going to stop they are now as always been. It doesn't matter how the people get here or if they are illegal or not. they will hate them because they are different and that is that. people dont need much of a reason to hate. |
