What should be done about our southern border?

Our southern border should have been patrolled better many years ago, but now I guess the best possible solution is armed National Guard Forces in multitudes along with the regular border patrols and of course those brave minutemen. I don't think we should detain illegals either. They should be rounded up, put on buses, and driven back across immediately. We need to really secure both our borders. If we construct this wall, it's going to be a waste of money, manpower, and the illegals will climb it anyway. Our Gov't needs to enforce these existing laws and take seriously the fact that the American People Come FIRST!

Nothing...but everything should be done to ensure that the country who is our neighbor to the south become financially and politically stable and independent so that the citizens may prosper on their own soil. Bringing down governmental corruption, providing employment opportunties, making it easier for young people to obtain higher education and investing in Mexican corporations will give them the boost they need to accomplish what physically blocking out immigrants could not do-make their home a place worth staying in.

Do we want to be an island in the sea of tranquility? I think not. The situation is only going to get worse as the rich nations get further away in prosperity while the poorer and more prolific third world countries gain in population.

In 50 years, we'll be at around 10 billion souls, mostly in the third world countries. There'll be zero fossil fuels, zero coals and other natural resources. The minority, or rich countries, will be fighting a battle over the remaining resources, especially water. By then too, we'll be under the full effect of global warming....not a very bright future for sure.

I agree with Mr. Scandalous, a solar powered electrical fence. This is a good start to the problem as well as coming down hard on those employers that employ Illegals, along with any other precautions necessary.

It's not that we hate Mexicans. What we dislike is they come over here (I'm in a border city) and expect to have everything handed to them. They want us to speak to them in Spanish, they want all the rights of the US citizen and yet they don't want to do what other people from other countries do, become a citizen. Where I am at they come over the border, don't carry car insurance, if they hit you, they leave. The police here aren't able to give them a ticket for it because their mayor has a tantram about how his people shouldn't be required to carry it here since they don't there. However, go over there and be involved in an accident? They don't care if you are the one at fault or not, they will put you in jail anywhere from a few months to several years. Yes, I think a fence should go up. The taller and longer, the better. The anglos are treated like second hand citizens here. One girl was told, when she went to put her baby on WIC, that she was white and she could work. And You people wonder why the one's on the border want a fence.

All borders should be protected. All borders should be monitored. Not because of the immigration problem but simply to protect us from the backlash of faulty American foreign policy.

The immigration problem can be solved by coming down hard on those who would hire the undocumented. Children born to the undocumented should not be considered American. No federal or state services to those who are illegal. Aid to Mexico should be dropped to pay for the damages.

A migrant worker program would be fine. It should apply to all who come to work certain jobs for a period. Not just Mexicans. Our current policy or lack there of is doing nothing but creating a mess for generations to come.

What ever works,if a fence is a deterrent then build it,its to keep people out not in and there is absolutely no comparison to the Berlin wall that's an inaccurate analogy.
Id love to see the military brought back from Iraq and placed on the border,armed.Now that's what I call a deterrent.

I think we should stop sending money overseas to continue this war - bomb them all, they have had plenty of advanced notice. Bring our troops home and give them all better benefits for a job well done. Then take the millions that would have been spent to rebuild their cities and use it to secure our borders. I have no problem with honest Mexican citizens coming across the border to work, providing they get documentation needed to pay taxes on the money they earn here, just like I do. If they are after a better life and they can get it here, then let them come as long as they follow the same rules as American citizens. I also think that if they send the majority of their earning back home, they should be taxed on it, just as we do if we enter a foreign country with a large amount of cash.

they should make all the racist idiots who hate "mexicans" all lay on top of eachother across the entire border. I've seen plenty of them so I'm sure there will be enough to stack about 10 feet high.

Leave them alone. We may need them sometime in the future. Everyone needs to quit being so racist. Get over it. Even if we do build a fence, people will always find another way to enter our country... leaglly or otherwise.
