my wife is from ecuador and came to us illegally.I am a legal resident so what should i have to do to make her legal?

As an LPR, you cannot rectify her illegal status in the US. Your best option would be for her return to her home nation, wait out her ban and then apply. If in the meantime, you become naturalized, you would then be eligible to sponsor her and a waiver be considered to allow her return. |

She has to leave the country. She will be banned from the US for 10 years. If they do not arrest you for aiding, abetting and/or harboring an illegal alien (punishable by 5 years federal prison, deportation, life time ban from the US and a $250,000 fine) you could, if you get citizenship, petition for her to return to the US(it will be denied) and then ask for a waiver. As a legal resident you can not get a waiver so petitioning for her is a waste of money.

You can file an immigrant visa petition(form I-130) to qualify her for
an immigrant visa but it will do nothing to make her legal now. For
spouses of permanent residents there is a quota waiting list of many
years. If you become a citizen, there is no quota. uscis.gov has
info on immigration and the necessary form. |

all you need to do is to file form I - 130 IF YOU ARE PER MANET RESIDENT it take a long time before they will call your wife.if you are a US citizen they will call her within a year of the application.u can file know with a green card and up grade it later when you become a citizen.good luck. |
