I went to Florida at Christmas and on the way back we nearly missed our connecting flight in Detroit so we were rushed through really quickly.. So basically the people checking our passports didnt take out the green cards from our passports!! My dad told me to pull to rip it off and I now dont have mine, but my partner does..
We are returning to Florida in Summer and now Im worried that we wont be able to get back in the country as they will think we never left..
what do we do????

It happened to me once and it is not unknown, and yes, it is important to make sure the Americans know you have left. If not, they will assume you overstayed and you could indeed not be allowed back in.
What you do is fill in the card and send it back with a letter of explanation and some evidence of your departure from the US (Boarding cards, credit card statement showing activity in the UK) to:
ACS-CBP, SBU
1084 South Laurel Road
London, KY 40744
USA
you won't get an acknowledgement so keep a copy. As you don't have your card you'll have to explain all in the covering letter with as much detail as you can. Take the copies with you next time you visit.
Don't forget that when you return in the summer, you now need to fill in an online Visa waiver. Assuming you are British, it can be found here:

well, considering that you would be attempting to make an entry into the US, I think it would be fairly obvious that you did, in fact, leave at some point. the real question would be when. did you overstay or not. It may be obvious from other stamps in your passport on re-entry into your home country, or maybe not. take whatever evidence you have of your trip back, airline tickets would be good. the reality is that this happens with some frequency, so if you have something to back you up, you should be ok. |
