We could change the law so that Bush could be president for another 4 years, or just elect Mcsame that way the economy will continue to decline, the US dollar will continue to lose even more value, and all the immigrants will go home cuz their country will be better than the US. The government doesn't have the resources to gather and deport them. Actually, let me go back on that statement -- the government does have the resources, but is not willing to act.

Also, the government is not willing to put in place measures to prevent people from entering. One effective way would be to have small towers posted every 1 or 2 mile along the border with one or two dudes up in each tower 24/7, equipped with infrared goggles and guns (or at least something that can incapacitate a target without killing them).
Another way is to have a geostationary satellite installed right above the border with a zoom good enough to distinguish groups of humans from single humans from animals, an infrared lens to catch people at night, a permanent link to various dispatch centers along the border, with people on duty and ready to go 24/7 to intercept and catch anyone crossing the border. I'm talking helicopters and armored ground vehicles.
That's a yearly multi-billion dollar budget either way.
The fence is a waste of time and resources because anyone with a pair of pliers can cut a hole in a stupid fence. Or they can climb it.
All this paragraph is just to point out that if you kick people out you also need a way to keep them out, and we don't even have that.

Finally, we can't give all those people amnesty because illegal immigrants will continue to pour into the country anyway unless we can keep them out (see previous paragraph on that) and we'll have an extra 12 million pauper on our hands, plus whoever tries coming in next.

It's not that I want the existing illegals to stay, but there's no effective way to get rid of them.

And I realize that illegals don't just come through the Mexico-USA border, but the ones that don't are even harder to catch.
