Great idea.. sue the government for diverting tax dollars to non-citizens through medicaid, food stamps, welfare, public schools. It may be the only way to address the problem. Until we take away all these reasons to invade this country, the problem will get worse. Their effect on wages (just look at the unchanged minimum) has been devastating.

I have a good solution. Actually, I am borrowing my ideas from Lou Dobbs. Do a severe crackdown on employers that unlawfully hire illegals. And crackdown on the politicians who have a connection to the corporations that hire illegals. Fine them HEAVILY. And stop them from doing business if they continue to unlawfully hire illegals after they have been caught more than once. If illegals have nowhere to work, they will not come to the U.S. Guaranteed. Also, the corrupt Mexican government must do a much better job at improving the terrible employment situation and poor conditions in Mexico. Lastly, the U.S. must get serious about securing our borders. Use the military in full force to guard the borders. I believe those steps would cure this problem.

I think the only real solution can be bringing down the hammer on the companies and individuals that employ illegals. They need to be fined to the point it could destroy their company, otherwise it will have little effect. We can do other things, like border control, fences, refusing services and handouts, etc., but they keep coming here because people will hire them. We need to put a stop to that.

You can start by trying to force your local government into setting housing restrictions to only those who have valid legal residency.
You should also sue employers who are hiring illegal immigrants for violating the law, especially if you they refuse to hire you.
I should also sue any medical practitioner who provides free medical care to illegal immigrants, while at the same time, they are suing legal residents for overdue bills.
There's a start, and find your voice in Government by not supporting anyone who supports legislation that helps any illegal immigrant, while hurting honest legal citizens.

The best thing to do is to cut off the main draw of illegals, jobs. If you know of a business that employs illegals, then chances are they are not paying social security taxes, withholding taxes, etc. Report them to the IRS and get them audited.

By the way, blowing the whistle on a tax evader makes you eligible for a reward of 10% of the assessed taxes up to $50,000.

Get laws passed to deport all Illegals. Report any Illegals that you are sure are illegals. Report Illegals and their employers. Call your Politicians, Police, Immigrations, and anyone else you can think of that would be interested in Illegals taking jobs away from Americans, and living off of our Tax Money!

I live in L.A. and I agree, it's absolutely ridiculous. I've said this on other posts before but the people who run the government do not have to deal first-hand with the illegal immigration problem so they aren't in any hurry to fix it. They are just trying to get votes to further their political careers and fatten their wallets. They are living in upper hillside estates far removed from the problems of poverty and don't want to listen to what we have to say about it. I think the best thing to do is just take an active role in reporting, writing to congressmen/women about the problems you experience.

I do like the idea of a class action lawsuit. It seems that lawsuits and money issues are the only things that will affect the government so that's not a bad tactic. It would probably be easy to get people in L.A. mobilized to join that cause (the 50% that aren't illegal immigrants anyway).

Secure the borders immediately (with a mere 5.9% (i.e. 153,000 border patrol) of the total 2.6 million military, guard, and reserves).

With no more magnets (no jobs, welfare, education, etc.), the remaining illegal aliens will leave voluntarily. Allow all illegal aliens to leave on their own, with their own property. Those wishing to immigrate to the U.S. must get in line behind those already seeking to immigrate legally.

get all the politicians together on this illegal immigration issue because it's just smoke and mirrors in what they are doing now . there should be laws that put employers in jail for hiring these peoples if we dry up the jobs they want come .

Easiest way is to turn in employers who are hiring them. You can do it anonymously so no one knows who did it without repercussions. Let INS take care of it.

I live in Mn. and we have a huge illegal population, after the harvest they all go on welfare, all you haters yes they go on welfare! in Mn. we have special social workers for all of the non English speaking welfare recipients. Mn. also gives $10,000 to some undocumented immigrants so they can buy homes. My family had to go without Christmas and good food for 3 years to save to buy a home. I hope no immigrants are reading this and decide to add to our problem, but I just had to tell the truth.

Start, I think, by petitioning to end the 'amnesty city' business. No city in the United States should be in a position to stop following federal law. Write your city council, local representatives etc., and tell them you're concerned about the issue.

'Free' isn't. Someone pays for it.

To fix illegal immigration, which mainly comes from Mexico and Central America, because it's too far for other countries to swim in from, it's going to take having the US/Mexico Border Fence, which has now been signed into law, and now needs to be built.

Get rid of the 'free', business, also.

Beyond that, encourage people in Mexico and elsewhere to build their own infrastructure. They had their kids, now they need to feed, clothe, house, educate, medicate, and employ them.
That's a national responsibility, and if other countries were keeping pace with their exponential population growth, their citizens wouldn't be coming to the US illegally. It's said that illegal aliens represent about a 90 billion dollar tax burden, nationwide.
If 20% of that was spent on helping Mexico to have clinics etc.,
then they could deal with their own poor. and the number of people seeking care in our country and emigrating illegally to do it would drop like a rock.

Also, Mexico DOES have their own money, they need to channel more of it into the needed things: Roads, schools, hospitals, homes, etc. That's where the fence is a good move, prevent them from just dumping their problems off in america etc.

Solving your own problems is the first step toward independence, and ultimately, a better standard of living. Gotta be motivated, though, to be effective at it...

Encourage government policy which makes them legal but not citizens. By making them legal they will have to pay taxes and health insurance like all of us and they will contribute to your Social Security benefits. Also, if they want to get benefits they will have to become citizens, make a substantial "make up" contribution before they can become eligible for Social Security or Medicare.

Unfortunately you got a lot of immature answers and some of the comments make the rest of us that are seriously concerned about the issue look like racist pigs. I have been called racist a lot on here...not saying that anybody else on here is, just that the answers are crude when a solution is being sought.
I get an email from FAIR (Federation fro American Immigration Reform) and Save Our License and both of them keep you updated in immigration issues and guide you to sites where you can contact your local politicians. Get active!
And my #1 solution is

FUnny thing, I just read about several states in these answers with problems with large numbers of mexicans. and I thought that we had a problem in Georgia! I think the soulution is to vote for those who promise to do something about it and then hold them accountable for that promise. Then if that doesn't work I suggest we start putting birth control in the water supplies of Mexico because if everyone in the U.S. thinks they have a real problem then where the heck are they coming from? If they can't reproduce then we won't get anymore coming here. I actually think it would be a nice thing for us to do for Mexico for a few years. In fact, I say we all pledge to sponser a Mexicna woman and pay for her birth control. For me this plan would beat the alternative of me having to pay (thorugh my tax dollars) for their healthcare and all of their children too! Seriously if we did this we may improve the Mexican economy and then they won't want to come to the U.S. anymore.

Hell our gov. gives the money to pay bills and pays for their medical bills. So I say get rid of the people in the gov. helping the make the choic to come to the USA.

Well arm the fence they are planning to build I suggest auto turrets and land mines plus warning signs to be nice about it. Also complete the fence across the entire border plus remove water stations provided for illegals in the wild.

You can thank your mayor for the problems that LA has. He is far too sympathetic to the illegals, and the Hispanic gangs. He should ask for the governor to help to clean that mess up. Our mayor here in Houston has the support of the Texas governor. Mayor White has sent a special police unit to known street corners every day, and they ask the day laborers for a valid Texas ID. If they do not have one, they have to go home and are not allowed to work. It is sad, but they are here illegally. The businesses who hire illegals should be given a big fine if they are caught hiring illegals. It has come to the point where they have more rights than us, and the government is talking about giving them Medicare/Social Security, and Medic-aide. I do not want them to be eligible for any type of government assistance. We are not even able to get the assistance we need. We do not have free health benefits. I am of Mexican descent. My grandfather came here during the Mexican revolution. He became a US citizen and had a business for 40 years before he died. We all speak English in our homes as much as Spanish. Most of our family members have college degrees and are healthcare providers, teachers, or business owners. We have Hispanic friends who also feel as we do about the illegals. We are being lumped together with the illegals. We do not support their cause, as they have not received legal citizenship here in the U.S. NO AMNESTY FOR THE ILLEGALS. If you give this a thumbs down, or the person who wrote the question, you are more than likely here illegally and are in hiding and need to go back to where you came from and come here legally. You will be welcome here in American if you come here legally and apply for citizenship, speak English, and pay your taxes.

I know this is not going to happen but, this is what I think should happen, First, dig a long deep hole and fill it with comtaminated waste, then build a 15 feet high electrified fence with 10 amps, then out in the field put a series of randomly placed land mines, then I would stage a lot of TRUE RED-BLOODED AERICANS, with shotguns and lots and lots of ammo. Then I say if the intruders-illegal aliens can get through all that then let them be citizens.
Those are my thoughts and if I offended anyone out, too bad, you can ship yourself off to mexico too.

This is so simple, and it WOULD work. Round up illegals. Don't send them back, send them to prison for like 10 years. Let them have a choice, sit in a prison cell all day, or work for 50 cents per hour. Most of them will work just to get out of their cell. Hire them out for $5 per hour. The profit will pay for the prisons. The work they were doing will still get done. When they finish their prison term, SEND THEM BACK WHERE THEY CAME FROM. They'll stop coming here.
