What were the major differences between "old" immigrants and "new" immigrants?

the only differences I can find is that the old ones came mostly from Europe and now they usually come from Latin America.People who say the old ones came legal are wrong.

Most old immigrants came here legally. Also, most came here because they wanted to become citizens, and were willing to take on American culture as their primary culture (ie you would not have known my Grandfather and ex-wife were foreign born, since they both learned to speak perfect English, without an accent).
