What will happen for all the Gurkhas who cannot settle in this country?

I'm heartened that Damian would welcome Nepalese neighbours. As he has expressed some sympathy with the BNP recently, can he tell us what the BNP line is on Gurkhas and their families gaining British citizenship?

Let's not forget that before this government acted, NO Gurkhas had the right to citizenship. Now all those who left service since 1997 have the right to citizenship - I hope the government extend this to veterans whose service ended before 1997.

Im not sure....but Sign Joanna Lumleys petition online to let the Gurkha's stay here...Im not one for petitions but this is important.

I would think they will live at their home in Nepal.

It's so very sad that these soldiers and families who have fought for Britain are excluded whilst New Labour allow loads of people who hate the UK in.

The Gurkha's have a proven track record. I think it's because New Labour think they are too British? They have risked their lives for Britain.

Edit I would love to have a Gurkha as a neighbour, I would know there would be no **** in the neighbourhood.

they must return to nepal.this is the lesson for them that they should not make decision in hurry. they sold everything before coming to UK
now they can go back and live with relatives

Ask yourselves, What was their "terms of contract" when they signed the dotted line, and why should it be changed to suit them...and also,give them the right to stay, who shall they claim(families and ex families) to join them at a later date,,,I say "NO", when they finish there term being 3/6 or even 22years service, they should return home and be satisfied with the employment they were offered in the first place.....The only reason Joana Lumbly is on this band wagon is the fact that her father was a Gurkha???..Would she support them otherwise? I appreciate we have tens of thou sends of other unwanted foreigners living here ,legal or otherwise, which I would love to see repatriated, and I know way put the Gurgha,s in the same bracket, but a contract is a contract... Ex serving soldier and have served with the gurkha,s in Hong Kong....

The Governemnt was defeated last night by 21 votes so Labour let in the Gurkhas and kick out the 'Shirkas'
