What would happen if i (american citizen) got married to my boyfriend (canadian citizen) in canada?

i have the same thing, only my boyfriend is american and i am canadian, i wanna be american though, i wanna live there with him. Tell me if you hear anything, sorry for not giving you any advice, i need help too. Good luck.

You would have to apply for Canadian citizenship and have lived at least three of the four years in Canada before applying for citizenship. You have to learn about Canada and know either English or French.

Basically, you have to live in Canda (legally) for a while before applying.

The first step will be to gain Canadian permanent residency. You can do this by applying either from inside or outside Canada, but unless you have a temporary work or student visa, it's probably better to start the processs while you're still in the US.

You will have a much easier time of gaining permanent residency if you can show that you have a skill, certification, etc that Canada needs, such as being a doctor or a skilled construction worker (no, I'm serious).

This is going to sound messed up, but being married to a Canadian doesn't really give you very much leverage in the eyes of Immigration Canada. You apply for permanent residency at your boyfriend's address and then once you are married you will be up for citizenship. The process could take a while, but you will not be kicked out of the country as long as the two of you are married and you don't break any laws.

In order for you to become a Canadian citizen your boyfriend needs to sponsor you to become a permanent resident of Canada. Once living in Canada, for a certain amount of time, then you could apply for Canadian citizenship.

Despite the retards statements on this forum, Canada does not require ANY person to give up their citizenship. You can be a dual citizen of both the US and Canada.

You would still retain your american citizenship if you only got married. If you would wish to become a canadian citizen, you would have to give up your american citizenship, and take the various tests for canadian citizenship. If your children are born in the US, they would become american citizens even though you hold canadian citizenship or even dual citizenship papers.

You don't have to unless you want to. They won't force you to move to Canada. Both Us and Canada allow dual citizenship. You can be a Canadamerican!

You will still be an American citizen, since Canada is in America (America is a continent, he! )

I believe its a smart choice for you to take Canadian citizenship and not the contrary... Canada is like the US, with better conditions: social and economic !

You should marry him, then go to immigration, most probably you will have to return to USA for 6 to 12 months. If you happen to have a baby, things will get a lot faster, as Canadian authorities seems to take good consideration to kids being in an unified family.

I personaly have a friend from Canada, got maried to an Australian, and the whole process took 14 months. The pregnancy helped a lot, I believe.

One of you would have to renounce citizenship.Since Canada is a "Friendly" country to the US,you qualify for dual citizenship.If the marriage is dissolved,you would have to leave the country.

you can apply for his green card while u in US its easy takes around about 3 to 4 months
