What would happen to the US economy if all illegal workers were deported?

Prices would increase initially at least until those jobs were filled by legal workers, but taxes would decrease. After one year, there would actually be less welfare paid because a lot of our citizens who currently take welfare would find employment suitable to their skills and education levels.. Hospitals on the verge of closing would make a comeback. Total uninsured motorist payouts would decrease significantly. The fabric of our society would get stronger. The bottom line is the economy would take a hit initially and then be much stronger than it is now.

Well, there would be less shop-lifting (no, I didn't say it would end it ALL) there would also be more money in our schools to help provide for American students.

There would also be more jobs for our citizens who don't have any along with students trying to find the first jobs. Employers would have to start paying the living wage and actually start taking care of their workers again. I will never forget in New Orleans when there were tons of American people who lost everything just trying to get back on their feet...they had jobs the first two weeks and then were let go because the illegal aliens had arrived.

The US would have more money staying in the US economy which would make it stronger verses having the US dollar sent back to Mexico to be the 2nd largest revenue in Mexico.

Wages would go up for legal workers. Illegal employers would go out of business or have to compete on a fair playing field with everyone else. More tax income would go into the government and less spending for social programs, infrastructure, and education would be necessary. Health insurance rates would go down as hospitals adjusted their prices to reflect less bad debt...the same would happen in credit companies.

The unemployed rate would drop to almost 0% and I would actually be able to get a good summer job. Wages for the working class would go up and poverty in America would become much more rare. An American man will once again be able to support a family and a nice home working in a factory or in a mine.

There would be less of a drain on the U.S government as all the people who didn't pay things like income taxes would be gone. (I believe income taxes is the single largest revenue of the US government) This would mean more money can go into things like national security, education, etc....

There would of course be a bit of a shock as many businesses would lose workers, but things would stabilize and I believe the United States would be better off.

Healthcare costs go down, Educational costs go down and quality of education improves, crime goes down, housing costs go down because now there is a surplus vacated by the illegals, americans once again can get jobs in construction and the quality of workmanship goes up, the cost of commodites like fuel, electricity etc stabilize because demand is less by about 20 million people.

On the downside, you might have to get your lawn mowed or your hamburger served by a high school kid trying to make a few extra bucks.

We would recoup and the employers would just have to hire citizens at a decent living wage. The complaints farmers give has become moot. They now have machinery to pick the crops. Crime would also go down. The taxpayers would not have to spend billions on their free education and medical care.

It would most definately improve the economy due to the fact that most illegal aliens don't pay taxes on their wages and a large percentage of them send a large chunk of what they earn here back to their families in their native countries. That also means that those of us who do pay taxes would not have our taxes going to pay for illegals to have free medical care.

The scene would improve dramatically. If this were done on an ongoing basis, further illegal immigration would slow a lot, as there wouldn't be as much incentive to come here illegally.

Wages would go up, more people would actually be paying taxes on their income...I wouldn't go so far as to say that taxes would get cut, but the amount being spent on welfare would probably decrease as less people took it.

first of all thats pretty much impossible. we'd have to have a police state to be able to deport 12 million people.
the economy would go down. immigrants take the jobs no one wants. they work hard hours in the fields and dont get much pay.most americans wouldnt take those jobs. so yeah our economy would definitley suffer

The short term impact would cause a shortage of some consumables.

The wages for non skilled labor would go up in a year following as a shortage of non skilled labor would force a more competitive wage.

Production job wages would go up short term while companies moved more of their operations out of the country to cheaper wage markets.

The social service population would have no excuses as to not being able to find work thus reducing the burden on that system as well as the drop in spending on illegalâ€™s already draining the system and not paying anything into it.

Long term it would force Americans and legal immigrants to become better educated as the non skilled labor would be all but gone leaving only service industry jobs for those who failed to better themselves.

Doesn't anybody understand that the US government is already trying to do this and is failing at it miserably? And to those of you that think that crime will go down, are you crazy? Think about the amount of gun crime that goes on in the inner cities - are these as a result of illegal immigration???? or deaths as a result of drunk driving? Think about it...

The victims here are the not the Americans that are "losing" their jobs to illegals (I don't know about you, but the idea of roofing, being a janitor, picking strawberries, or any of the thousands of crappy jobs that illegals do in this country so that Americans can go to work in our air conditioned offices, drive home in our air conditioned cars and watch NFL football on our widescreens, is not the idea I have for gainful employment) they are the illegals that carry $10,000's in their pockets because they can't get bank accounts, get stabbed in the streets in bad neighborhoods, have their money taken away and left to die because they don't have insurance to pay for treatment at a hospital.

Contrary to conservative belief, if the illegal immigrant population were to get deported today, our economy would collapse; do you really think that the 5% unemployed that are currently looking for jobs are going to go out and hop on the strawberry picking bandwagon to get a miserable paycheck - if they were willing to do this, they would have applied at McDonald's, or any of the thousands of low paying jobs that only high school students seem to want.

The bottom line is that we have them here, they do a service for America, why not let them stay, have them get on a tract for legality and show the rest of the world that this country isn't the racist, militant, ignorant country that everyone else in the world seems to think we are.

i would have to pay double for my landscaping roofing and other odd jobs that americans currently decide isnt worth their time and possibly have half the craftsmanship if we deport illegal workers we'll be hypocrites in a "land of opportunity" because a few hundred years ago we were immigrants too

Farmers would have to raise salaries to get enough employees. Then that would cause the cost of food to increase dramatically, which would hurt anyone who buys food. That would also mean that people have less money left over to buy other things, which would hurt companies that do things other than sell food. And by extension, it would hurt the employees of companies that do things other than sell food.

On the plus side, government spending would go down since they wouldn't have to pay for benefits for illegal immigrants anymore. Although I doubt they'd cut tax rates because of that.

Let see. The wages will go up because there will be a shortage of labor in all low paying jobs, construction, agriculture, landscaping, convenience stores, trash collection, etc..

This means prices will go up because they will charge you more for everything because of the shortage of labor and the higher wages the replacment workers demand.

This means all you whiners who complain about illegal immigrants will get significantly poorer because you will spend much more money on goods and services. The american economy may not come to a total stop but it wil break heavily and suffer. Fruit will rot on trees because nobody is there to pick it up. Construction work will slow down making housing much less affordable. Inflation goes up and your dollars will buy you less and less as the effects of shortage services and goods multiply.

Think about it, they fill a huge void, otherwise, they would not have existed. Dont' just get on the bandwagon because "it just sounds like a good idea" I think about it rationally before you jump and scream to "deport" all the illegal immigrants. I do not believe that the immigrant consume even a tiny fraction of the economic prosperity they currently produce.

It would probably be better. But people spend so extravagantly. The problem is not the economy. It's taking advantage of freedoms. The illegal folks need to get in line for these freedoms.

In case this happend, I think the goverment would ask them to come back. People always say that illegal people are been taking their jobs but thats not truth because I see a lot of young white people asking for money in the streets why they dont go to the fields to work. Americans are you willing to work in the field? Of course you are not you just want the nice jobs but who pick the fruits and the vegetables that you eat, the illegals, but you dont see it or you try to ignore. WHITE PEOPLE START TO WORK AND STOP ASKING FOR MONEY IN THE STREETS!!!!
