of course the legal immigrant, no matter where they are from. The only problem with immigrants from Mexico is that most are illegals. |

Your question makes no sense! An illegal immigrant from the UK has no other choice.. he or she would already know English. |

Congratulations Charles D, you transform this very xenophobic question in to a intelegent answer. |

I will have to go with the legal from Mexico. They will have a very hard time if the chose not to learn English. Illegal is Illegal no matter where they come from. The legal showed his respect by conforming to our laws. |

Everybody who lives in the U.S. (legal or illegal) should learn to speak English
And I'm pretty sure somebody from the UK would be able to speak English (just an observation) |

I personally think that all immigrants that are here need to learn English.... when we go to there countries we are expected to know there language........ |

Legal of course - I don't care where they are from, the color of their skin, or the religion they worship - just so long as they go through it all the legal way!! |

One of the idiots who just answered doesn't even know what UK means. |

I can't help but to see that some of these comments are purely racist. And FYI, most immigrants from Mexico come here legally. Please know your facts people. Stop making ignorant comments. And by the way, most Mexican immigrants speak English. But you probably wouldn't know that. |

Neither. They are both still in the USA without their green card. If you want to live here you need to go through the proper channels to do so or stay out! |

well...that's good and bad
if the illegal immigrant from the UK can speak English and hasn't done anything bad...then the UK person.....
but if the UK person has done something illegal...then the person from Mexico because they are legal and because you can learn Spanish in the process and i grantee they will learn some English and Como out to it some time |

How about taking care of our own for a change and stop worring about all this other crap.We have millions of Americans out of work,Social Sec. a mess, our Senior citizens can get medical att. or their medications, schools are a mess, hungry children not medically taken care of,and the list goes on & on.Sorry but we need to clean up our own problems and let everybody else do the same. |

Mr. Bojangles

I'll take legal everytime. |

Neither, if the mexican refused to learn english, because, as a lot of mexicans are, that means they refuse to become part of this country. |

Neither! Next question? |

Your question suggests that you will take any illegal as long as they are not Mexican.
Did you really have to ask this question?
Would you have another sleepless night because Mexicans are the new group to discriminate against.? |

Please stop confusing
the issue with the facts.
The phrase "cheap labor" is a myth, a farce, and a lie. There is
no such thing as "cheap labor." Take, for example, an illegal
Mexican who sneaks in here with his wife and five children. He
takes a job for five or six dollars an hour. At that wage with six
dependents he pays no income tax, yet at the end of the year gets an
"earned income credit" of up to $3,200 free!!!. He qualifies for Section 8
housing and subsidized rent, food stamps, and free (no deductible, no
co-pay) health care. His children get free breakfasts and lunches at school,
and require bi-lingual teachers and books that taxpayers provide. He doesn't
have to worry about car insurance, life insurance, or homeowners insurance.
Taxpayers provide Spanish language signs, bulletins, and printed material.
He cannot be fired, harassed, or sued. He and his family receive the
equivalent of $20 to $30 an hour in benefits, while working Americans are
lucky to have $5 or $6 an hour left after paying their bills and his, and
paying for increased crime, graffiti, and trash cleanup.
Cheap labor? My a**!" An illegal is an illegal!
It's only cheap for Bush's corporate friends! |

I would prefer that we make it part of the legal requirement of at least residence visas that they need to learn English.
Either way, I'd rather have the legal one. |

Id prefer that out borders were closed for a while, so we could figure out the mess thats already going on. |

How's that for a leading question? Neither. I don't want illegals here of any kind; we must protect our borders at all costs to ensure the integrity of our broken immigration system. We must fix it. We also must make sure immigrants who come here learn the language of success: English. |
|

I would 'prefer' neither. Good Lord! I don't care how ppl talk to other ppl who know their language but for the love of god do not expect me to know what the hell you are saying. I have two true stories for you...
True story # 1: My grandparents came over from Italy and instead of expecting people to just understand them they learned English...they believed it was so important that they didnt even teach my mother Italian. It is beyond culture...language is about communication. What good is your culture if you cannot communicate it to other cultures!
True story # 2: In my home town news paper about a week ago a hispanic male who was born and raised here and is bilingual...knowing both english and spanish...walked into the local government building and made a big stink because he (and I shi* you not...he was quoted) "felt like speaking spanish and I couldent...I pay taxes I should be able to walk into a local government building and speak spanish." HA!! Who the hell does he think he is! I pay taxes too...if I work at that 'local government office' and I speak only english than don't come to me expecting a person who speaks fluent spanish. Not to mention the fact that if this said government building was to hire extra interpreters for irresponsible ppl I would be paying through higher taxes! Me...pay...who's grandparents came here and got their heads out of their butts and learned English!!!
I would also like to add that when I say irresponsible I mean immigrants (any immigrants) who come here and take advantage of our system and continue to be ignorant and not learn our language. Local government office buildings hire a quota of bilingual speaking individuals to handle a certain amount of "newly arrived" individuals who have not had time to aclimate to our society. They do not hire one for every single office so that every one can come in and speak whatever they want.
And this is besides the UK...cause what the hell is that all about? |

I'd take an ILLEGAL from the UK or anywhere else before I'd take a godd@mn LATINO from ANYWHERE (legal or illegal) Latino's are racist, ignorant, freeloaders. They support the BEANER, illegal immigrants in the USA!! They call Americans LAZY!! The Americans are who built this country!! You filthy BEANERS are soon to find out WE are NOT taking your $h!t ANYMORE!! If the laws aren't passed to DEPORT ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS, ALL HELL'S GOING TO BREAK LOOSE!! I'M MAD AS HELL!! I'M READY FOR **W A R** !! |
|

Neither deport all illegals, don't you get it, it is not about race it is about being illegal!!!! |
|

LegitAmercn
 |
There is a problem with the question... One of the requirements to be a LEGAL citizen is that you learn English. Therefore, you can bet your sweet *** that people here who don't speak a lick (especially have been here for any amount of time) are here illegally. So my answer would be legal... and that means they must speak English at some adequate level before having been granted citizenship. Even legit green carders must be learning. |
