Whats the diffence of a resident alien and a permanent resident?

ok im a resident alien and my card does not have a expertion date i lost this card and they they give me anthor card but this one has a expertion date expiered already but i found the first one that did not have the expertion date could i still use it

You have to use the one that is currently issued to you because you already declared the first one as lost and as far as USCIS is concerned the first one is not in effect anymore. Resident Alien and Permanent Resident means the same. They used to call it Resident Alien and they also used to issue card without expiration.But it is replaced now by "Permanent Resident" and normally card has either 2-year or 10-year expiry period.

You are considered a Permanent Resident Alien before the cards did not have an expiry date now they do every 10 years. You have to renew it. Notice was given to all Permanent residents that they had to get the new card several years ago.
