Suppose person "A" sponsors person "B" to come to Canada. Immigration officials are satisfied that "A" can financially support "B" so "B" is allowed in. Then, "A" either loses his job or else dies. What happens to "B"?

If A dies then B's application for PR is voided and B must leave when the current visitor visa expires, otherwise they WILL BE ILLEGAL.
If A loses his job then A must find a new job ASAP. If A does not have a job or is on welfare when CIC call B for the landing, (A will be required to show proof of income) then the application will be denied and B will become instantly illegal. |

If "A" loses their job, they are still financially responsible for "B", the fact they sponsored "B" puts them in a binding contract to meet public charge costs for "B".
If "A" dies, then it depends on in what way they sponsored "B". If they were the petitioner for "B"s status, "B" would have to prove a genuine connection to "A" to maintain the status, along with proof of "A"'s death. If "A" was just a financial sponsor, they are released from the contract of care of "B" and nothing would change for "B". They'd still be under the same rules and restrictions as they were when "A" was alive. |
