I wondered the same thing- haven't heard a peep have we?
I suppose they'll be out later after they dry their eyes and find new ids for the illegals they're going to have to put back into hiding.
Add: Deportation is a heck of a lot cheaper than providing public education, welfare benefits to people who will never be able to earn a wage that will take them above the poverty level, social security benefits and medicaid to 12 million people over a span of 40 years or more.
Do you want to forfeit your social security benefits to a criminal trespasser or just everyone else's including the children of citizens of this great country. |

It's really not time to gloat yet! We have a long row to hoe, this is just getting started. Let's keep on pushing for border control and getting our laws enforced! We haven't won yet. I'd like to know that our boys in Iraq are going to have jobs when they get home! |

foor those that supported this bill, how on earth would its passage have helped stem the flow of illegals in the future? we allow 12 million illegals to become legal now, and 10 years from now, we are having the same debates with 12 Million more!
we can still increase border security, and HAVE to, without this bill. we have got to start focusing on getting rid of these "Perks" for illegals, such as no taxes, in-state tuition, free medical, etc.
remember- they are ILLEGAL aliens.
MJR, i have NO problem with LEGAL immigration. these ILLEGALS are killing our country. LA gangs bring in lots of illegals to fight their gang wars for them, increasing crimes against LEGAL US citizens. its outrageous. |

And round 1 it was. So the bill did not get as may votes as possible to stay alive.
But you know this has just open the doors to possibilities. I would not be surprised if we got a mini 245 (i) again. Just to bring peace in this turmoil we are in or maybe the Dream Act.
Let keep our eyes open. |

any future votes should be simplified to provide amnesty for all who break the law rather than just on racial and political reasons. |

What sorely needs to happen now is a counter-proposal to immediately and unequivocally begin rounding up and deporting criminal illegal aliens. |

they might be hiding in a church. i know about a lady who is in this country illegally, has a deportation order and is hiding in a church from immigration!!! they put her on the news many times. shes been there for months and she refuses to abide by the laws. i know that many more immigrants are planning to seek refuge in a church. |

Get over yourself MJR! How dare you call me or any other legal American citizen a racist because we want to see the laws enforced!!?? FYI - I grew up next to a beautiful and loving Mexican family and was childhood friends with two of the sweetest girls I could ever meet! Their grandparents didn't speak a lick of English, but the Grandma was so happy and full of joy because me and my "German/French" 4th generation family loved to visit her and she lovingly made us her homemade delicious tortillas and knew we were so thankful. That was 30 some years ago!!!! And to this day those memories of her beautiful face and smile are embedded in my heart and soul. Plus the Grandpa playing his awesome accordian and my sister and I and our friends, their grandchildren, dancing and playing and singing. You'll never tell me I'm a racist!!!!! I have black, mexican, & any other nationality you can think of as friends who I love and respect . You better get that through your head, because you don't know my heart!!! |

I think its tragic that only 7 amendments even made it before Congress before they voted to shut this thing down. I have no idea what the big hurry was. They should have gone through every darn amendment before taking a vote on this thing.
So, I think its horrible that the Senators from both parties didn't even seem to want to discuss "immigration". I wish it would have passed and maybe our immigration laws and how we deal with immigrants would have gotten a little bit better.
Oh well, we'll see what happens in 2009 or 2010 when we get a new congress and they try this whole thing all over again. |

It makes me sad that people don't recognize the inevitability of mass migrations.
Now we get to waste billions of dollars on trying to stop the irresistible force, and in the process, we're not going to have one fewer person crossing the border illegally, which means our border patroll will continue to chase innocent civilians instead of drug-dealers.
Aren't we so smart?? |

Even aside from the fact that it wasn't amnesty to begin with (look the damn word up if you want to misuse it constantly), Q&A doesn't reflect the general concensus of the American people.
While I'm not exactly against forcing all immigrants to follow the rules in place, gloating over one bill when the subject is far from dead, is petty at best.
You could call this Round 1. |

To be pro-amnesty means to give no punishment for a crime committed. I am not pro-amnesty. To charge a few thousand dollars for crossing the border illegally seems like plenty of punishment to me. It is a punishment that fits the crime as anyone that has ever committed a misdemeanor likely got away with a slap on the wrist and fines as well.
I'm pro-immigration reform. As far as how I feel about the vote...I'm actually laughing because it cracks me up that everyone thinks this is such a victory. So what. Now the illegals get to stay here and don't have to worry about paying the fees and don't have to worry about paying taxes still.....everything will stay exactly the same. Laws WONT be enforced(in fact it would actually be harder for the senate to agree on enforcing laws then it would on immigration reform) and illegals will continue to pour in. GOD BLESS AMERICA. |

Dar sent a question that linked to an article. Even Ted Kennedy made some light insinuation that those who are against illegal immigration were racist.
As to where the pro's are, I guess most of them are working. |

I'm not "pro-amnesty", but I do believe that there's no way we're going to go around deporting millions of people. Who's available to do that? Who's going to pay for it? It's unrealistic. I work within the world I actually live in, not the one I wish existed.
So, that being said, it would've been nice be have actually had some legislation in place to start stopping the problem, rather than voting to continue to do nothing about it. Way to go - you didn't get EXACTLY what you wanted, so now nothing will be done. Bravo! |

Well i'm let down.
20 minutes ago my mom was yelling "cold-hearted humans!"
at our t.v.
lol.
My mom has made friends with an illegal and she told us her story and how hard it has been for her and how much she needed it to pass.
We are american but we know good people when we see them.
We REALIZE they are not all good, but we feel for the good intentioned ones.
It's sad...
But it's DEFINETLY not over. |

excuse us if we are still reeling from the rampant racism that continues to infect this country.
We hadn't realized that we had changed our country's name to the United White States of America...
EDIT:
A racist is a racist, regardless of whether or not he is a law-abiding citizen or not.
Remember that abolitionists were breaking the law when they were smuggling runaway black slaves into the free northern states. Some of us don't need father government dictating our morality.
"If a law is unjust, a man not only has the right to disobey it, he is obligated to do so" --Thomas Jefferson
"Those who would trade freedom for security deserve neither and loose both" --Benjamin Franklin
It's a shame that we have forgotten our own forefathers.
@ jmaximus 12 - when you say legal immigrant, what you really mean is that you are for "rich immigrants, who will pay our taxes and support our social programs. To hell with those smelly poor ones who didn't have the sense to be born into a family affluent enough to run the gauntlet of citizenship." Because that's what this is really about, isn't it? Money, it all boils down to trading lives for dollars. |
